Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is resigning, according to Redskins sources. The team is planning a press conference this afternoon to discuss the Hall of Famer's decision to leave as both coach and team president.
No decision has been made on a replacement for Gibbs, who has spent a total 16 years with the organization in two stints. A process will be put in place, team sources said, to choose one.

I don't think we will get Cowher, but I can see Snyder trying to make him an $8 million a year coach

Gibbs doesn't need this anymore. You could see it on his face and he said it too.

Carroll is too smart to go to Wash. Why leave the pent house to go to the crap house?

Notice the teams that have players with "street" attitudes, nobody wants to coach?

While Washington isn't the best job in the NFL, I wouldn't call it the crap house.
Got a young, talented QB with an offense that has playmakers, and a top 10 defense that just made the playoffs.

There's no reason why a good coach couldn't make this team a competitor in the NFC (aside from Daniel Snyder).

Yeah you are right...not the crap house. But not the pent house or even close. AND Snyder is a pain. Not the worst job but far from ideal is a better way of putting it.

Joe Gibbs is a 67 year old multi millionaire with nothing to proove and a lot of life left to enjoy with his family (including grandchildren) and friends. I think he has just had enough.

Gibbs admitted it himself that the Sean Taylor tradegy made him see the private side of life in a different light. Also one of his grandchildren is battling leukemia, which most likely only added more weight to his decision to go home and be with his family.

Look for experienced and well thought of defensive coordinator Greg Williams to step up and take Gibbs' place. Personally I think he is a better choice than bringing back Shottenheimer or Cowher.

You can bet the pretty sharp football mind of Greg Williams learned plenty from the old master..Snyder will pay offensive coordinator Al Saunders enough so that he won't take a top job elsewhere if offered..

Skins have a nice nucleus to build upon but agree Snyder needs to hire a GM that he will allow to choose a head coach.

Coming from someone whose team already had Greg Williams the first time around in Buffalo--HELL NO.
Cowher would be MUCH better

Joe Gibbs knew that Jason Campbell is not the answer. I saw 0 potential from him this year. If anyone disagrees, please give me an example.

I truly think that was part of Gibbs decision. He knows he will never win a SB with Campbell.

Washington can be a great place to coach imo. You will always have sellout crowds, the owner will spend money and do what it takes to make his team better. For those who follow the team, does Snyder act like Jerry Jones?

I think Snyder has mellowed since his days when he sent Mike Nolan cartons of ice cream (because he didn't like 'vanilla' defenses), but that could be because Gibbs is his hero and had full control.

I can easily see Danny boy hiring a coach and getting way to involved on the football side again and go back to his fantasy football days of 2000 when he brought in every over the hill flashy player...

they owe gregg williams a shot a head coach, do the right thing danny. big names dont guarantee shit. remember when he bought the team and tried to load up on veteran all pro players. didnt work, williams would do a good job and the players would respect him fo sho.

Greg Williams..

Gregg Williams got a bad rap as being to conservative on offense during his Buffalo stint. He needs to do what Gibbs did with him in reverse.

Let Al Saunders handle the offense with total autonomy and natrually he (Williams) will keep the defense where he is a graduate of the Jack Pardee school of total team defense which doesn't depend on big name stars but works instead as a co-hesive unit with each man doing his job.

A top notch special teams guy wouldn't hurt, and as we all know no one in the NFL has more money to pay coaches than Dan Snyder, so that is no problem.
