this is posted in the financial forum, but thought i could a little more thought from here.....

Hello. I just recently sold my car for $4,100. I have been looking and looking for something to replace it and have had a few of my close friends and family buy from ebay with good luck. I found a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is up for bid....i emailed the car dealership (legit) and emailed me back saying for me to make an offer.....

The lady said that they had 2 cherokee's on lot and just received 3 new cars and needed to get these off the lost ASAP, and for me to make a reasonable offer. I offered, and she counter-offered for $5,800. Here is the specs, and was just curious if I should go ahead and jump on this deal.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
96,000 miles
4.7L V8 MPI
4x4
Leather interior
Air Conditioning
Climate Control System
Steering Wheel Radio Controls
Digital Information Center
Cruise Control
Sunroof
Tilt Steering Wheel
Clock
Heated Seat
Tinted Windows
The NADA and blue book value:

nada = low retail ($7,500)
Clean retail value ($8,850)
high retail ($9,775)

kbb = excellent ($7,540)
good ($7,000)
fair ($6,160)

BASICALLY, I CAN GET THIS FOR $5,800. SHOULD I JUMP ON IT, AND WOULD YOU?

thanks stealth. You think i should pull the trigger on it? Almost seems too good not to. A good friend of mine had a jeep grand cherokee and he said he put 200,000 miles on it and never had any problems.

thanks

Do some research. Historically a vehicle with a lot of problems. The '99 was a redesign, which means they make corrections/improvements in the following years.

Doesn't mean its not a good vehicle, but definitely be careful.

It probably will get about 13-14 mpg

price sounds good, car looks good.

I wouldn't buy it, but I prefer Japanese cars.

Gas milage will be a big con as Doug mentioned. For $5800 you should be able to find a real nice Toyota Camry (wagons are really practical) from the years 97 thru 99. You won't regret it when you fill up a lot less often.

I had a 1992 Toyota wagon a few years ago but had to get rid of it (gave it to my nephew for his first car) when I moved here to Costa Rica, I still miss it. I now have a 99 Izusu Trooper which is similar to the Jeep - it's big and powerful but I wish I still had the Toyota.

However if gas milage is not a big issue for you and you really like the Jeep the price seems very reasonable. What you like personally in a car is important in the long run.

BOL. wil..

I had an '84 jeep forever. 230,000 miles and very very few issues. Great cars.

It's a nice car. I drive a '00 Cherokee Limited, basically the same car you listed above. Wil is right, the biggest problem is the gas mileage. I get 13-14 city mpg, and with the 4.7 L V8 engine, it's approximately $55-60 to fill up, depending on the gas prices. That aside, it's a nice car and I haven't had any problems. It really depends what you're in the market for, but if you need a 4WD truck it's a nice choice, and the price you listed is certainly reasonable.

Sounds like a hell of a deal-maybe to good to be true.

13-14mpg? That's freakin horrible!!! I have a 2000 4 Runner Ltd that gets 20-22 depending on what gas I use. Does the V8 really kill the mileage that badly? If so, that's BRUTAL.

Hey, thanks for all of your tips that you gave -FH- on St. Augustine. What a great town, and the places you recommended were totally our style..just a FYI, the A1A Ale Works doesn't reopen until the 25th (looked like a cool joint)!! Scarlet O'Hares was very cool....

HELL NO. In my car salesman days I appraised and traded for a few of them. Not worth it.

You will lose a big chunk in value once it goes over 100 k. It will be positivly wortless if you try to trade it or sell it later on also.

so, after researching and researching, the kbb and nada sites still hold jeep cherokees limited fairly valuabe....even after 100k miles.

What is your biggest concern with these trucks? Gas mileage?

This is not a particularly hard car to find, especially with 96K miles. No reason to really get excited. IMHO, it is priced "fair" but if you buy, always expect to spend a few hundred when you get it delivered to your home, and allow for that. If you like the car, I say go for it, but there are lots of them on the market. Just by looking at the steering wheel, I would rate this one "Average" condition. The Above avg. cars are 99.9% perfect, as a rule.........

Here is a page of what they sell for in recent dealer auctions.

Short Answer:No

Long Answer: I would only buy another Jeep if it came with one of the boats in the background of the 3rd pic.

GL That car was one big headache for me.

Back in '97 I was looking for a new vehicle. I looked at the Jeeps. Keep in mind that name: Jeep. The doors still have that thin piece of metal on the outside like the jeeps you see in M*A*S*H.

Well, ended up passing on the '99 JEEP CHEROKEE. It sold for $6,500, and i could have had it for $5,800. Damn, wish i could finally decide on a vehicle to get....SUV...any dealers here wanting to give me a good deal?

I have heard from alot of people that they have huge problems with the transmission. The suspension is the best out there.

I would go with a 4 Runner, I bought mine in 2000, did 3 years of Colorado driving and 5 in N.east with salt and haven't touched a thing yet..Haven't even touched the brakes yet (85k on them)
