I have an account on my credit report from citi where I was added to the account as an authorized user. The person has a real high balance and is hurting my credit. Should I call citi to take me off? How long will it stay on my credit report once the account is closed? Anyone to take that account of my credit report after I am removed as an authorized user?

If I'm not mistaken, FICO is phasing out authorized user accounts in their scoring module this year. Try posting this question to www.creditboards.com. They can help you out.

Ask all 3 Credit Bureaus for your free credit bureau reports to see if there may be other items that don't belong to you. Then write any Credit Bureau that has erroneous information. Chances are they will remove it if you can prove it's not yours. I'm in the middle disputing a couple charges myself. It happens on a regular basis believe it or not.

I had one on there from Cox Cable from 3 years ago. I paid my bill when I moved and returned my equipment and gave them my forwarding address. I didn't hear from them but they put an item on my credit bureau that I didn't pay. I'm disputing that.

You get a free credit report from each agency once a year. I just checked my expedia report on Sunday and had 2 false things on my report. You can dispute it over the website and not have to write in. I should hear back within a month.

Ask the card owner to call Citi and have you deleted.

It should then fall off in a month or two.

If it does not, once you are removed, dispute it as not yours with all 3 bureaus.
