Does that make too much sense??? Hundred of thousands of people call in sick every year the Monday after the Super Bowl. Why not have the game before a holiday then? Move President's Day to the second Monday every Feb, play the game the second Tuesday every Feb and all is good.

I have spoken.

I guess George Washington should have been born a couple of weeks earlier.

You'd have a point if we actually celebrated "President's Day" on Washington's birthday.

Feb 22 is actual, but it floats to a Monday. You don't want to lose it if it falls on weekend.

NFL would have to change the schedule to fit the holiday, they aren't going to move the holiday to suit the NFL.

You realize it's two president's birthdays we're celebrating? Washington's and Lincoln's. They both happened to have it in Feb. They picked the third Monday of Feb every year for no particular reason except that's in Feb. and that's when their birthdays are.

technically GW's birthday

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidents'_Day_(United_States)

I'm not saying its a bad idea, but it won't happen.

Sports are more important than elections in this country already, so I'm for it.

NFL would have to payoff the proper politicians.

Presidents Day (or Presidents' Day), is the common name for the federal holiday officially designated as Washington's Birthday, and both variants are among the official names of a number of coinciding state holidays. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February.

As the official title of the federal holiday, Washington's Birthday was originally implemented by the federal government of the United States in 1880 in the District of Columbia (20 Stat. 277) and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices (23 Stat. 516). As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's actual birthday, February 22. January 1, 1971 the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. A draft of the Uniform Holidays Bill of 1968 would have renamed the holiday to Presidents' Day to honor both Washington and Lincoln, but when signed into law on June 28, 1968 simply moved Washington's Birthday.

In the late 1980s, with a push from advertisers (see detail below), the term Presidents Day began its public appearance. The theme has expanded the focus of the holiday to honor another President born in February, Abraham Lincoln, and often other Presidents of the United States. Although Lincoln's birthday, February 12, was never a federal holiday, approximately a dozen state governments have officially renamed their Washington's Birthday observances as "Presidents Day", "Washington and Lincoln Day", or other such designations. It is also interesting to note that "Presidents Day" is not always an all-inclusive term. In Massachusetts, while the state officially celebrates "Washington's Birthday," state law also prescribes that the governor issue an annual Presidents Day proclamation honoring the presidents that have come from Massachusetts: John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Calvin Coolidge, and John F. Kennedy.[1] (Coolidge, the only one born outside of Massachusetts, spent his entire political career before the vice presidency there.) Alabama uniquely observes the day as "Washington and Jefferson Day," even though Jefferson's birthday was in April.[2] In Connecticut, while Presidents Day is a federal holiday, Abraham Lincoln's birthday is still a state holiday, falling on February 12 regardless of the day of the week.

In Washington's home state of Virginia the holiday is legally known as "George Washington Day."

Too late in the year. The Sunday before MLK day would work though and would probably get more people to actually recognize it and take the day off (albeit due to hangovers). Pushing it out to mid-February means a later start to the season which in turn means more games in crappy weather.

It would actually make sense to have it on a Saturday instead of a Sunday if there is a week off between Championships and Super Bowl, but that would severly hurt tourism in the host cities.

Why do people feel the need to call in sick after the SB? the game is over by 9 PM in most all locations, usually isn't all that good of a game, i could see if say 50% of the people of Boston took the day off after the Pats win, but why would that be needed in....Memphis, or Orlando for example?

I want to be able to call out sick and earn holiday time. And you want to take that away from me? Absolutely horrible idea

You're on a gambling forum and you have to ask this question?

Because they gamble on the superbowl, if they win, they celebrate by drinking lots of booze and partying, and if they lose they console themselves by drowning their misery in booze.

Super Bowl is late enough as is. Jesus they should have it before pitchers and catchers report to Spring training!
