A couple quick tricks.

Go to Format-->Slide Design to change the background of the slides.

Go to Slide Show---> Custom Animation to make objects (text boxes, pictures, etc.) "fly in" or appear with an effect.

F5 to switch between slide show view and design view.

Should be pretty self explanatory.

PowerPoint is extremely user-friendly.

I have been out of school for over 4 years so I'm not up with the times but I would've thought there would be something new by now. Even when I was nearing the end of schooling, everyone said power point was a thing of the past.

When I used it....my presentations consisted mostly of:
-Bullet points
-Picture inserts (graphs, actual pictures, logos)
-Animation (they give you a zillion options, this is what I do when I was bored)

other than that, the only things I would play with were:
-theme (background or whatever...style?)
-sounds (rarely, but sometimes a little music can't hurt)

I know there are crazy better options, but I always told myself the presentation is to just state basic points/topics....the actual presentation should include you going into detail on the subjects highlighted in the PP.

PS....handouts are nice to give out....the one with area for notes....that way the 10 ppl can take notes and ask questions....
