I have a couple of questions for someone who plays poker for a living or for a considerable amount of regular income. Just wanted to gather some info and suggestions for my own quest and knowledge of playing poker as a secong job. Thanks in advance and please, serious inquiries only.

You need to be able to play comfortable ($$$$-wise)
must have enuf in reserve to handle the swings--

Limit or No-Limit???
cash game or tourney???

If you have questions, maybe you should ask them. That usually increases the likelihood of getting them answered.

There's a major player here who makes 2k routinely whenever he plays.

Currently I am playing online and doing good. I was wondering if setting a goal of $50 per day to get my bank roll up and then going for $100 per day is a good goal. Eventually I would like to have enought of a bank roll to shoot for about $500 per day. I am wanting to do this as a 2nd source of income since I already have a full time job. I play limit games if that helps.

What kind of limit. If's its low limit you won't make it. Low limit is worthless. Play mid to low NL 100-300. Good luck in your quest. LKet us know how you are doing. Start a thread in the poker forum and keep it updated. This will also keep you in check to reality so you won't lie to yourself.

Matt24 is who you want to talk to, but he's a tourney player-so his approach is probably quite a bit different than yours. If you're doing well at what you're doing, I'd dabble in adding in a couple more tables at a time. I can't do it, but some guys have no problem playing 4-8 or even more at once.

Two comments.

1. The higher the stakes the harder it is to win. Top players figure to win 2 big bets per hour on average. $500 a day is an 8 hour session of $15/$30 when you can easily go $2,000-$3,000 either way.

2. In poker the average is over thousands of hands and 'winning' players can lose for many consecutive months due to variance.

Check into 2+2 and look at Malmuth's statistical data regarding win rates, expected win and how to determine if you are even a winning player.

8-table 2/4

2 BB/hour = 64 dollars/hour

8 hours/day = 512 dollars/day

Where do you play? I'm guessing the Taj....playing poker as a second job for a beginner is pretty rough...suggest working overtime at your current job and stay away from the tables, or go do dealing school and learn how to deal poker...

Are you referring to B & M games only Woody? I think online pros can do better than that with the increased hands per hour and so on.

Had a freind who made 400 K in 24 months. He also lost his wife and gained 60 lbs. I think Green Doberman has given the best advice yet. The moneygrab is over with poker, 2-5 years late to the party.

To be successful playing poker or any card game you must gamble for stakes you are comfortable with. The reason I win is I don't have to. I play with many kids and semi-professionals that can't win long term because they fear their bankroll or lack of. Good Luck
