Alright so I have to buy a suit for interviews, and I'd like to get one that lasts me for many years so I'm ready to put down a good chunk for something decent ($700 about).

any advice on how to shop for it? :dancefool

You don't really need to spend over $200 for a suit. Go to a store that sells nothing but, and make sure the staff is helpful, then get it.

Heck, one of my best italian suits I got for about $100. It's amazing, and I always get compliments on it.

You should be paying extra for SERVICE (fitting, styling advice, etc.), and not for a brand name.

Seriously everyone wears the dark blue crap.

You need to stand out today. Go with a dark maroon shark skin.

Not too sure what prices are in Canada, But like a few said...
No Way you need to spend $700 for a Suit !

I would check out to see if you have a Century 21 Department Store
in Canada. There you can get a $700 suit for about $300

They have just about Everything, All Designer Suits,Shoes,Shirts, Etc.

Up that number to 400 and I agree. 200 just isn't enough these days

I picked up 2 suits in Thailand for $97 each. They weren't silk but they were regular business suits. Custom fitted. The guy threw in 2 silk ties.

Not necessarily maroon - but yes, you want to stand out - something that says I'm not another one of the monkeys in line - maybe a light green limish color.

Did you get any custom-fitted shirts when you were there last? I got 5 shirts for $85. I wear a different one to work each day.
