Notre Dame has nothing to do about Jesus. They worship Mary
Holysmoke--Not sure if you were serious or not, but just to clarify:
The University of Notre Dame ("Our Lady") was founded in honor of Mary, Jesus' mother. Catholics can practice a devotion to Mary, but not worship. They only worship God the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (collectively, the Holy Trinity).
As a Catholic university, ND's Catholic students (not all students are Catholic), staff, alumni, etc. only worship the Trinity of God, not Mary.
I realize there may be semantics in play here w/worship and devotion/honor, but to the Catholic Church there is a strict difference.
That is the reason that the only object rising above the Virgin Mary atop the Golden Dome at ND is the Cross on the top of the Basilica on campus.
Bottom line, Jacobson's comments were outright stupid, but the Constitution allows her the right to practice free speech. Likewise, as a TV viewer and consumer, I have the right to buy and watch whatever I want and will boycott ESPN/ABC until they fire her alleged drunk ass.
