Was having this discussion in sociology today.

Is it fair that Backup QB's and others are making more money sitting on the bench watching their team than a great teacher helping kids learn?

The way I look at it is, Athletes work hard as hell to get where they are and have a gift to excel at what they do. Combine that with the media attention they get and the filthy rich owners that pay them so much, why should we hate on athletes.

Is America doing the wrong thing here not paying people that help our society far more than MOST athletes?(there are a bunch that donate to charities and what not)

Or should we not care about what people make and just strive for ourselves like 99% of people do in America. Because with the prices of gas, milk and everyday necessities rising, we have to think just about ourselves most of the time to get by in the dog eat dog world.

Those athletes are the reason the different sports leagues are making billions every year.

Its called supply and demand.

If there were only 900 people in the world that could teach, the teachers would be making 10mill a year.

If there were 1,000,000 people who could throw a baseball 90MPH or hit one 400 feet, the players would be making 40K a year.

There is a reason that many universities make it so you need a minimum of a 3.8 to get in the education program. So many people become teachers.

Athletes and other celebrities have an impact (good, bad, or indifferent) on millions of people, while teachers impact maybe a couple hundred lives, it's not a good comparison.

The nation is very entertainment driven. If youre in a profession doing something that amuses people and you happen to be good at it, you will be rich.

Your thoughts?

forget the much better skills/talent

did you ever take into account many are risking permanent injury?

or that their "career" may be 4 years long or less? Not 30 or 40

or that they have dedicated as much or more of their life to their career?

I would hate to see the day when the inauguration consists of a $20 million signing bonus!

Imagine if we could bet on if bills get passed and who will get pardoned! I bet we'd see Tim Donaghy as a senator! lol....

think about it. tom brady's foot got more airplay on cnn then alot of other important events. they get paid the most because they are the most important. more people care about sports then politics or world events.

The only legit argument you could make is that coaches should get paid more than the players he coaches.
