Imagine for a moment that you, dear readers, could have a “media day” and could surround reporters and editors and poke microphones in our faces. What kind of questions would you ask? I mean, with the swear words deleted.
While you ponder that (and feel free to post your comments below), you can warm up by reading a compilation of some of the most inane questions ever posed at Super Bowl media day (the 2008 version is later today in Glendale, Ariz.) The questions were culled from ESPN.com and SI.com.
The most infamous question is:
“How long have you been a black quarterback?”
But that has long since been debunked. It turns out that a reporter, impatient at all the questions about Doug Williams’s pioneering role in Super Bowl in XXII, said mischeviously:
“Doug, it’s obvious you’ve always been a black quarterback all your life. When did it start to matter?”
But there is no shortage of actual dumb ones.

To Raiders QB Jim Plunkett:
“Is it your mother who’s blind, and your father who’s deaf, or the other way around?”
To Rams DE Jay Williams: “Is Ram a noun or a verb?”
To Broncos QB John Elway: “Are you going to listen to Stevie Wonder perform at halftime?”
To Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith: “What are you going to wear in the game Sunday?”
To 49ers QB Joe Montana: “So why do they call you Boomer?”:missingte
To Patriots G Heath Irwin: “Would you like to see the AFC win the Super Bowl?”
To Titans DT Joe Salave’a: “What’s your relationship with the football?” (Salave’a’s answer: “I’d say it’s strictly platonic.”)
To Bills LB Cornelius Bennett: “Do you believe you can win?” (To that, Bennett repeated the phrase, “What kind of question is that?” then launched into a profane tirade.)
Question: “Are you Vinson Smith?” “No,” said Dallas tight end Alfredo Roberts.
Bills running back Thurman Thomas was asked how he got psyched for big games. “I read the newspaper and look at the stupid questions you all ask,” he said.
