Big add in today's paper that both Southpoint and El Cortez will take $ 1,000,000. wager on Super Bowl game. I believe they did so last year also. I really don't understand why some people think Las Vegas will not take huge wagers ?

Simply craving action, the bettor asked if he could place a teaser using the opposite two teams — or the flip side of his original attempted bet. No. The lines are “too tight.”

Yeah these sportsbook managers are so effing dumb. Tease would be -6.5 and +18.5 right? Take a look at the alt lines. It's basically -235 for these spreads. At -110 it's -260 per leg. Much worse. Why deny a stupid bet? Because the bookie is more stupid.

It took me 10 minutes to get a $2,200 bet on the finals(Fla-UCLA) at the Las Vegas Hilton in 2006. The sportsbooks in Las Vegas are scared of their shadow.

Try to put in a teaser of any significant amount. Then you would understand.

Hell, try to get 2-3 dimes down on a regular season baseball total. freekin PRO baseball ! I felt like I was going thru security at the airport, was insane.

Sure they will take a mil on the SB, because there is no real risk - but they are truly scared of their shadow on day to day action.

What's your point ? 12 seems to be the right number since it's stayed there for 2 weeks which means equal $$ must be on both sides ! Vegas takes bigger wagers than any off shore I'm pretty sure. Just try to place a Million dollar wager offshore !

Equal money on both sides? I heard that 85% of the bets were on the Giants, they were just leaving it there because they were expecting Patriot money to come in this weekend when the majority of the public bets.

Sure, for the SB they will take bigger than anyone because:

1. There are no angles. 12 is the correct number, millions have already been bet on it. No injury information or anything else that could make a book look bad or get taken. It's the freekin SB.

2. Publicity! even if they lose they will get some credit for booking it.

BUT - for the other 364 days a year, they are scared shitless of sports bettors. Like I said, I've tried to get down 2-3k on a baseball total or hoops and have been given the 3rd degree. And I was just a freekin tourist staying at the hotel. Pretty pathetic, but they'd rather the sure money in the slot machines and treat sports like a gimmick these days, like the wheel of fortune at the front of the casino where idiots bet the 40-1 and the limit is like 10$. It's really sad to see, I remember when sports betting was taken seriously.

Sports Books aren't taken seriously here in Vegas ? I guess that is why every old and new Casino is upgrading them to be state of the art ! Where have you been hanging out anyway ? Arizona Charlie's ? Take a gander at Mirage, Caesars , Mandalay Bay, Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Wynn, Venetian, Palms, Southpoint, Sunset, Fiesta... heck.. even Sam's town !

They are upgrading them simply because it is a nice amenity, like the celebrity-chef restaurants that everyone has now.

It's basically a place so tourists can relax a bit, watch a game and throw a hundred on it before getting back to the real gambling at the slots.

Again, I ask you - try to get down more than 3k on a game other than the superbowl. The last year or so on a couple different trips I have had trouble. No trouble at the dice table, of course.

It's become a small-time sideshow - more like a themed bar than a part of the casino.

I find this hard to believe. I have gotten down pretty much anything I wanted at the Hilton. I have only played at the MGM twice, I was able to bet large sums with no problem.

Sorry but you are simply living in a fantasy world as Sportsbooks here in Vegas are big time business... not a small time sideshow ! Stay out of Arizona Charlie's etc and take a walk with the big boys that I mentioned already. Getting down for $ 1,000,000. is small time for you I guess !

I remember the days when buying a 1/2 point on the strip wasn't unheard of...try it now, especially on/near the number...I remember when MB first opened, they weren't scared of buying it down to 6.5 or up to 7.5....

You are totally wrong or just trying to be funny. Sportsbetting for gamblers doesn't really exist in LV any more. Books are for idiots betting on 10 team parlays.

Before I went to Vegas earlier in January I would have believed the 1,000,000 Superbowl limit. After being there and limited to dime bets on college basketball sides (Big Ten games), I believe you can take off three of those zeroes. Fun place to experience, but not to "hammer" games on.

Palazzo, which just opened doesn't have a book.
The new hotel going up where the Stardust was,( forgot it's name) isn't going to have a book.
Hotels/casinos nowadays don't want to be in the sportsbook business.
