no scoring available,sorry... maybe somebody has a better one ?

Just the 50 states with outlines, and you have to come up with the names of the states,print if necessary. It's harder than it seems, you get graded on first try. I allow you 10 minutes.

I'd get all the Western ones, and the Atlantic coast states, then falter with the others, probally get about 45/50

Standard grading, as in 30/50 =70 % or a C-, 45/50 =90% or A-,etc.

Knowing the state capitols is a pretty stupid thing to know, who cares what the capital of NH is ? That shit is just rote memory, but I wouldn't argue that the mental ability to memorize stuff has no value.

I don't care if the capitol of NH is Concord,Davenport,or Ottawa, useless info,IMO !

I'll use my memory for what I choose, but also dedicate enough of memory to pick my location on a globe within some reasonable distance, at least enough to say which side of a continent I'm on.

Who cares about the capitals dude? Its stupid, for example why is Springfield the capital of Illinois? When is should clearly be Chicago. I could care less about the capitals. As for the States I could probably get 45 or so but I would struggle in the North East since its so fukkin jammed up there and the states are the size of my ****

Wyoming
Mississippi
Arkansas
Indiana

and name the capital city of each

10 questions, 7 correct is a passing grade.

I'd bet your average dentist fails to get 7 correct.

Make note of those who were quick to be so defensive. State capitals I'll cut some slack, actual states with borders defined and pretty colors as to indicate seperation are a different matter... Yes, I will not back down, if you cannot distinguish Idaho from Wyoming you are in fact a fucking dope! Just one of those things in life you ought to know as a common American. Similarly, one does not need to know how to spell any word- sure enough, just speak it versus laying it out in text and you slide forever! This fits in well with the complete dumbing down of America that all the Oprah-files dismiss with a shrug and a roll of the eyes. "Oh, I own a calculator, why shoud I need to know what 12 x 6 equals, so silly!"

Doug come on man, you can come up with tougher states to find than Indiana and Ohio. I think most people know Illinois and know that Indiana is right next to it. Lets pick out some tougher states here. I agree with you though. I bet out of 10 people only 1 or 2 could name all 50 states without studying it

Jesus Christ Almight 5 Star - you are absolutely displaying yourself as the type that I am singling out here. Not surprising you think it so easy to distinguish your corn-husking midwestern neighbors but disregard any other region and their border-folk so dismissively. Hint: Arizona folk can probably point out New Mexico on a map and properly define its capital whereas a huckster like yourself couldn't point to China on a world atlas. And yes it matters, lets not sugarcoat this elementary school fundemental knowledge. It does MATTER that we can look at a map and distinguish states and such and know that Alaska does not border Louisiana and such - ya dig?

It's relative to where you are from or have lived. I know NH has a touch of a coastline and VT doesn't being from NE, but these two states could easily get reversed by many.

I wouldn't discard my dentist if he guessed LA was the capitol of Ca, he doesn't need to know it's Sacramento,etc. It would concern me if the guy was so clueless as to not know which coast he lived on.

Your average shmuck is going to do poorly on this. Test is flawed because those that are good at it will take it. ( here on RX)

Give it to more average people, even college grads, not geography buffs, bad sample on my part of people that know this stuff, it needs to be more random.

I dont care if I can locate all the states on a map, i really dont. Im not stupid, im just not the best at geography. Whatever who gives a shit. I can tell you're a little bitter over the patsies loss tonight... aww poor baby. I got a 26 on my ACT which is clearly above average but I cant name all 50 states on a map... haha thats pretty funny

I learned something.

I enticed a non-random sample to respond, got the geography buffs, not a true sampling.

no offense to anyone, but still biased comments, I thank all that posted, and conclude this attempt at gathering data, as I think it lacks the random factor.
