Nope on Wilt, who was never a real big triple double man (assists were the problem). Double doubles were no problems as he averaged a double double for his career.

Who would know this (off-hand)? Don't get me wrong, not criticizing, just...if someone knows this off the top of their head, wow.

I would be impressed.

Maybe David Thompson or George Gervin when they were battling for the scoring title during the last week of an NBA season...

I know Wilt went to being an assist man late in his career when he was not needed to much as a scorer with the Lakers but he is not the answer at any rate..Wilt held or still hold dozens of records and was voted #2 in 2003 by Slam magazines 75 best basketball players of all time.

Remember this list does not include some current players because it was made in 2003..Shaq is listed at #9 and is the highest rated player on the list still playing. I am sure if the list was re-done now Tim Duncan (for one) would move up from 55th place because of his recent play since the list came out..

1.Michael Jordan
2.Wilt Chamberlain
3.Oscar Robertson
4.Bill Russell
5.Magic Johnson
6.Larry Bird
Any of the above are arguably as good as the other IMHO.

Well guys I am calling it a day..

Started at 5AM EST so I am logging off now.

To answer the question: Larry Bird...

In the last seconds of a nationally-televised regular season game with the Portland Trail Blazers in March 1992, Bird sent the game into overtime with an off balance running one-handed three-point shot. Bird tallied 49 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals for his 59th and final career triple-double in what many fans called his last great game in the NBA. The Celtics won in double overtime over the Blazers, 152–148. Bird's 49 points stands as the NBA record for most points scored while registering a triple-double.

I watched that game LIVE .... Ill never forget the miracle shot Larry made to send it to OT !!! ( and to boot I had him on my fantasy basketball team that year as about an 10th round pick.) One of the best individual performances ever by my favorite player of all time. I believe Bird retired after this season hindered by chronic back pain, but for one night at least he brought back the ol' Larry Legend. What A FUKKING GAME !!! Good Memories Wil !!! Can't believe I didnt think of it ... now that Ive seen it.:103631605

You are right that game was at the very end of Bird's fabulous career. He played maybe 10 or 12 more regular season games and could only dress for 4 of the Celtic's 10 playoff games (they lost to the Cavs 4-3 in the East Semis after beating the Pacers 3-0 in the first round).

A serious back problem forced him to hang up after that season..

Career highlights and awards

2x Sporting News NBA MVP
3x NBA Champion
2x NBA Finals MVP
12x All-Star
1982 All-Star MVP
1980 NBA Rookie of the Year
1992 Olympic gold medal
NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time 1st Team player.
Boston Celtics #33 retired

Another famous Larry Bird triple double was during the series-clinching Game 6 of the 1986 NBA Finals, Bird recorded a triple-double of 29 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the Celtics over the Houston Rockets 4 games to 2.... Bird was named the Finals' MVP for that year, averaging a triple double for the series with an average of 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists per game.

He also won his third consecutive regular season league MVP award that year, a feat matched only by the great Celtic center Bill Russell and the most dominant player in NBA history Wilt Chamberlin.

Larry Bird was some kind of player..

Larry is my favorite athlete of all time.

I love the video where Xavier McDaniel recalls that Larry would
trash talk him, and tell him where he was going to get the ball
on the next play, and that he was going to hit a jumper in
his face, and then he'd go ahead and do it, and Xavier just had
to shake is head in awe.

Anyone know where a link to that video is?

Wilt got plenty of recorded triple doubles.

1) Oscar Robertson, 181
2) Magic Johnson, 138
3) Jason Kidd, 97
4) Wilt Chamberlain, 78
5) Larry Bird, 59

how many quad doubles have occured?

[edit] List of quadruple doubles

[edit] Unofficial quadruple doubles

Unofficially, Wilt Chamberlain scored at least one quadruple double, namely in Game 1 of the 1968 Eastern Conference Finals versus the Boston Celtics. He scored 24 points, 32 rebounds, 13 assists and 12 blocks, but blocks were not an official statistic back then.[5]

[edit] Near misses

There have been some notable near misses (within 3 total stats of a quadruple double):
