It's an HP laptop. I get no sound. There is a button you press to turn sound on and off. It's orange when off, and blue when on. It won't turn blue when I touch it.

Any ideas ?

Never heard of optional sound with a button. Just one more thing that can go wrong if the contacts don't work.

Why the hell don't they put that option in software like any other computer?

Is this different than the mute button?

if your mute button is broken, turn it off through the computer....(click on the speaker in your icon tray...bottom right)

I'm not familiar with HP laptops, but have never heard of a button like that.

Go into the control panel\device manager & see if anything has a red X through it.

I had a problem with my sound once on my PC and had to reload the sound drivers using the cd provided upon purchase. I'm not sure if this is the same with laptops.

I got it to work that way, but the button ( mute button ?) that you used to be able to just touch no longer turns from orange to blue. It must be a bad contact.
