I have never seen Billy play but given the fact that he owns several golf courses and most likely plays a lot the 11 might be a bit of a sandbag job..Sandbagging handicaps is nothing new and certainly not unique to BW.

Bellyputter should be able to tell after watching him play a few holes if he really is an eleven. Wouldn't surprise me if he plays to an eight or nine..

Wil, he used to be a scratch golfer. However, age catches up with everyone. They will run you out of town at this tournament if you are caught sandbagging, so his handicap is legit. There isn't enough money involved for him to try and pull a fast one.

That makes a lot of sense. I really am not familiar as to how strict these Pro Am event people are with the amateurs that submit handicaps.

The problem is most players use USGA computerised handicaps that depends upon them being honest when they enter their scores in clubhouse computers throughout the year. However, your point about it not being worth it for BW to sandbag is definitely valid.

I didn't know he went that far downhill with age over the last several years. That said, there is nothing wrong with an amateur in his mid to late 60s playing to an 11.

I read somewhere that Phil Sims is a scratch player but I can't recall ever seeing him in any of these TV events..

Seperated shoulders & broken collarbones don't help either. Not that I could play worth a shit to begin with, but boy.....talk about going from bad to 'find something else to do", I went down hard.

Walters team wins by 5. VIEJO, the first birdie I ever made in a tournament(10 yrs old), I holed a 3-wood from 120 yds.

You my friend are a regular Gene Sarazen...wow..

PS. for anyone not familiar with Gene Sarazen. He is the HOF Golfer who hit "The shot heard 'round the world" in the 1935 Masters Tournament. It was a final round 235-yard 4-wood on the par-5 15th hole that went in, giving him a very rare albatross 2 on the hole. He went on to win his 2nd Masters off that shot.
