Walton is 100% right for questioning Shaq. If Shaq plays great in Phoenix, he must have been dogging it in Miami.

What Shaq says in response is retarded. Since he's a better player than Walton was, I guess Bill shouldn't be allowed to question him.

Who are you kidding ? Walton was a far better player and teammate than Shaq ever dreamed of being. Do you actually think Shaq was ever capable of making 21/22 in a NCAA Championship game like Bill Walton did for UCLA ? When Walton was healthy there was no better basketball player ever ! He made all those around him better !

If SHAQ was a better FT shooter imagine how many points a game he would of averaged in his prime?

It's hard to imagine anyone being better than Shaq in his prime, he's just such a speciman, he was nearly impossible to defend.

You misunderstood. I was writing from "Shaq's point of view". You're not allowed to judge him because you're not as good as he is.

Walton needs to look in the mirror. He dogged it with the Clippers, winds up with Bird and the Celtics and suddenly he is running the court and playing like he had not played in about ten years.

Walton had 2 rings didn't he? Led Blazers to title in '77 and was on team with Celts for one of their's I think.

this boils down to a youth question.i remember john thompson saying shaq couldnt hold a jockstrap to bill russel.the reason i bring this up is because if the young people could remember walton, they would know he was a team player and a true leader, his coach was like dean and knight, everything was a team game thus the numbers not being over whelming [they uset to say the only man that could hold jordan under 20 was dean].to me bill walton was a better colleage player and shaq was a better pro.i know bill had bad knees and it shorten his carear.my opionon is if the two players were healthy and faced one another shaq would dominate him in the box and walton would do better passing and screenig.the only player i can remember that had shaqs physical dominance was wilt,he couldnt shoot free throws either.

First off you are telling me that you don't know what you're talking about because Walton won a Championship with Portland in 1976 and then won a Championship with Boston in 85. He was named the MVP of the the finals series in Portland as well as leading the NBA in rebounds and blocked shots. The following year He was the MVP and first team all NBA. In Boston He was the NBA's 6 th Man. I lived in Portland and had season tickets for about 20 years 3 rd. row from the front. When Walton was healthy... I have never seen a better all around basketball player. I saw Wilt, Jabbar, Dr. J, Walt Frazier, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, etc. etc. all up close. Walton simply made all those around him better. Portland's Championship team had Walton, Lucas and then Bobby Gross, Larry Steele, Corky Calhoun, Lionel Hollins, Wally Walker, Robin Jones Herm Gilliam ! Yet Walton led this team which was the youngest in the NBA with 7 new players to an NBA Championship. Many experts say that Walton was the best passing Center ever ! To those of us that had the pleasure of seeing him up close, He was a joy to watch. Those were the days when NBA basketball was fun to watch. I can hardly stand to watch guys like Shaq push and bully his way and take 3 steps, push off and then hear the whistle blow and of course a foul is called on whoever is in his way. Of course then He clanks the free throw !

Walton was a GREAY GREAT player who career got cut short because of injuries. in 77 he won it all with him and 4 decent players but no studs. In 78 they started like 40-8 before he got injured. It is not a fair comparison but make no mistake that Walton was a great player.

Actually Portland started the 78 season 50-10 to be exact before Walton got injured.

LOL. There you go. The guy was also great in 86 when he was with the Celts for another champsionship. Shaq is great but Walton was too and the point is you cannot insult Walton for anything he did on the court.

I do apologize ... I forgot about 86'. However Let me revise the list. How about ....

# of NBA Finals MVP Awards

Shaq 3
Walton 1

# of ALL-Star Games
Shaq 14
Walton 2

COO COO CLOSED >>>!!!

Hey, I love Walton too as a player and a quirky announcer. ( and a fellow dead head.) But let's not fool ourselves on this one. As good as Walton was you can't begin to compare him to the biggest, most powerful physical specimen the game has ever known and seen ( Wilt included.) Shaquille Oneal in his prime was a one man wrecking crew, a big bully who could dominate a game despite shooting below 55% from the stripe.

What you say is about right on. When healthy Walton controlled the game with his passing. He was so good it was scary. He played the game the way it was supposed to be played. He won it with us in 86. We call that team the best team ever! Walton dominated Jabbar too. Always.
