Holding the tiara his wife, Kim, wore at their wedding, Teddy Efkarpides, 43, still grieves over her Jan. 19 death. Kim Sjostrom-Efkarpides, 36, collapsed during the first dance at their wedding and died of a heart disorder.

The only thing Kim Sjostrom wanted more than a real-life reenactment of My Big, Fat Greek Wedding was the Greek-American husband who came with it: Teddy Efkarpides.
By the time the Davie teacher married the Sunrise carpenter on Jan. 19, she'd had a Greek-themed bridal shower, gotten a ''Greek by Marriage'' T-shirt and practically memorized the movie, which played while friends did her hair and makeup before the ceremony.
''She couldn't wait,'' says Efkarpides, 43.
The Hollywood version has a happy ending; this version doesn't. As 60 disbelieving guests looked on, Kimberly Sjostrom Efkarpides, 36, crumpled in the first dance at the reception and died of heart disease -- in her new husband's arms. They had been married for less than an hour.

''She was 10 weeks pregnant,'' says Efkarpides, a father of three. ''She was upset. She'd been pregnant'' in her first marriage, and lost that baby at five months.

Read a story on this. She had a history of problems with her heart and was even part of some ad campaign or something like that.

Horrible thing to happen.

Wiesman, I know you are young but try to think before you post next time thanks.

One of the worst things to happen to someone? I don't think so.

Is it tragic and awful? Of course. But it's not hard to imagine worse things. Afterall, this couple probably had a decent courtship. They also did have a joyous day or moment before fate struck them a major blow.

It was still an interesting read, but the I believe the title is not accurate.

I believe the title is "very accurate".

look at it from his point-of-view:

He probably has a new-nursery set-up in a room of his house for the up coming baby.Going about probably the "HAPPIEST DAY OF his LIFE",As he just married the woman-of-his-dreams,mingling around with his friends, and family ...maybe drinking champainge and telling everyone "how Happy he is" .... then in a split-second his "whole-world" comes crashing down.

If it was me .... I could NEVER go back to into the house again.

Sure ... there are alot of bad-things in this world, that may be considered "worse" .... but for him anyway ...losing everything you hold-dear,at the pinnacle-of-the-happiest-day of his life ...to lose it in a split-second,has to be the most emotional letdown of a person's life.

I mean ... I couldn't even think of something to happen to 1 guy in 1 day, that tops it.

just my opinion

Is the story sad and tragic? Of course!

No one though goes through this life unscathed. I dont care who you are. The story really plays on people's emotions. Tragic, yes! A great story to write about and exploit, yes!
