I think SS's point is that the amount per active player is nearly the same. I believe an NHL team can't have more than ~25 players, whereas it's 53 in the NFL, or so I've gathered from some random Interwebs link.

I also believe that NHL scrubs are paid a whole lot more than NFL scrubs. Minimum salary is also a lot higher in the NHL. Why, I'm not sure.

Most teams have 20 or so guys that account for only about $10mm of the NFL cap with the remaining 33 guys making the remaining $100mm.

A lot of scrubs on NFL rosters with big turnover. Those guys price themselves out of jobs once they start hitting higher veteran minimum salaries.

Had brain cramp... Forgot about roster size....

Think that tells us how much an NFL owner makes per year...

They are raking money in hand over fist....

The difference is signing bonuses in NFL do not count towards the cap.

But still, considering the revenue of the two leagues, something is wrong here,

I dont t hink NHL players get paid to much, I think they are WAY overpaid.

This comparison to the NFL proves it.

It also proves that much more money goes to the players in the NHL than the NFL, in the NFL the "machine" makes most of the money.

In the NHL the "players" take a good chunk of the gate

The TV money isn't comparable, nor are merchandise profits.

I for one will not pay $75 to see Chicago-Columbus.
