SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- As many as 18 people were shot on a Northern Illinois University campus Thursday, according to news reports. The gunman opened fire in a lecture hall at the university's DeKalb campus, reports said. Campus police report the immediate danger has passed, and that the gunman is no longer a threat, according to the university's Web site. The Associated Press reported that as many as 15 people were shot, while CNN reported 18 shot.

This is a gun free zone. No guns are in gun free zones. Haven't you learned this. Gun free zones protect you from these things. There are signs up that say this. It's against the law to have a weapon on school grounds and it's against school...

Details might be sketchy, but it sounds like America's love affair with guns for all is still alive and well. Amazing that this is the second comment on this story. Has a massacre on Valentines Day become unworthy of commentary in the public's mind? Is this nation that emotionally dead that we just don't care when stuff like this happens every few months? Sad...

Makes more sense than gun control...which also can mean the ability to hold your weapon firm and steady.

This is a gun free zone. No guns are in gun free zones. Haven't you learned this. Gun free zones protect you from these things. There are signs up that say this. It's against the law to have a weapon on school grounds and it's against school policy. So this didn't happen since we all know that criminals follow the law and school policy.

I saw ESPN didnt mention this in the first 5 minutes or so earlier on ESPN News.....I guess if it was a big D1 school they wouldve led with the story!

5th one this week. This stuff comes in waves. A lot of nuts running around out there

The shooting at the Northern Illinois University came seven days after a woman teacher was shot and stabbed by her husband at a school in Ohio.
On February 8, a woman at a school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, shot dead two female students in a classroom before turning the gun on herself.
On Monday, a 17-year-old shot a classmate in the leg at a school cafeteria in Memphis before turning himself in. His victim survived.
A day later, a pupil at a school in Oxnard, California was shot in the head by a fellow student. The victim died of his injuries yesterday.

How many of you knew that there was a school shooting at Delaware State University a few months ago?

I'm guessing maybe one.

I did know that and I agree with you about the media. Turned on the TV last night and surfed the channels, and I could not find anything on about yesterday. The Chicago station had a little ticker on TV about a news conference that was going on and you could listen to it on thier website but nothing live.

Although I don't want what the media did with the VT thing as I thought is was over done but I do think they have a responsibility to report things of this nature....
