I hate to sound this dumb. But what is the difference between an email address that ends with .net and an email address that ends with .com?

I have verizon and know two other people who are like me and their email address ends with verizon.net I thought all verizon's ended .net
However a verizon representive that emails me has an address that ends verizon.com

Is there some simple explanation?

.net is probably used for customers, .com for corporate.

Traditionally .com addresses were for companies and .net for individuals, though that's been clouded a lot since when I started on the net in the 90s.

In today's world, there isn't much of a diff....i don't even think a .biz holds any diff....

for now, at least the .gov .edu and .org are somewhat legit.

.com is king....
