The ONLY one I agree with from both lists is Dave Matthews. To say the rest are overrated is ridiculous.

pearl jam (awful music)
nirvana(too much respect for a bad style of music which died out before cobain did)
toss up between the beatles and u2 ill say the beatles were more overated just because they were pretty good but no band could live up to their hype and their legacy is way overrated

Just flat-out disagree regarding Nirvana.

And I think you are vastly discounting the Beatles legacy.

#1 for me would have to be The White Stripes. Seen them live and have listened to their albums and they do nothing for me. EXTREMELY overrated.

#2 Sonic Youth - Never understood how they could be popular essentially making albums of noise.

#3 Grateful Dead

Yeah, but Sonic Youth and The White Stripes barely even register as "rated"

had it not been for cobains death theyd be another green day type band. good but not elite by any means the only reason they are regarded so highly today is because of his death ask someone on the street for 5 great nirvana songs they might come up with 3 if their lucky cuz to be honest theres really not more than that to begin with and not many people remember their music they just remember the drama that goes along with them

This would explain why you dislike the Beatles too

Nirvana is very overrated IMO. They are just as famous for bringing a new style of music to the forefront than their actual tunes. PS, Teen Spirit is a classic, but I don't like much of their stuff beyond that. Still, they were innovators.

not even much of a dislike for the beatles i think they put out great music but to so many people they are far and away the greatest band ever and i dont buy into that. i think there probably top 10 which is still amazing but i only say they are overrated due to such high praise that i feel is too much

Then how are they overrated? :think2:

Because their tunes aren't that great, but most give them a pass because they got a new sound into the forefront. Teen Spirit and then alot of average songs IMO.

You Guys MUST be Young !!

To List some of the Bands that you are Listing as Overrated !!

Better Yet....The Beatles ????????????????????

The Beatles were a pop and rock group from Liverpool, England. They are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music.[2]
In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries; their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide.[3] The Beatles are the best-selling musical act of all time in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.[4]
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles #1 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5] According to that same magazine, their innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s[2] and their influence on pop culture is still evident today.
The Beatles led the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored genres ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, styles, and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

Most of you seem to be morons. Neither Nirvana or Pearl Jam are overrated. First post had it right on with The Doors. They are far and away number 1 most overrated. Keeping it post 1990, i'd say Creed, Nickelback, Foo Fighters, etc...that is all post-grunge ClearChannel radio bullcrap. Listen to indie rock, listen to satellite radio or live in the middle america radio fecal matter.

Does anyone actually sing the praise of Creed and Nickelback? I don't think I've ever met someone who said they actually liked either of those bands. They probably get hated on more than any recent bands I can remember. I never understood how they still sold a million + albums.
