47-year-old former champion Iran Barkley and 60-year-old former champion Saoul Mamby are scheduled to headline a small fight card this Saturday in Lapwai, Idaho, Fightnews has learned. Mamby is scheduled to take on 32-year old Frank Bybee, a journeyman who has only won four of his 15 pro bouts. Barkley's opponent was still unknown as of deadline. Local heavyweight Chauncy Welliver, who is promoting the card, informed Fightnews that there had been difficulty securing an opponent and that Barkley's fight would likely be scrapped. However, according to sources inside the Nez Perce Tribe boxing commission, Barkley is actually on the schedule to face Welliver in the main event at the Pi-Nee-Waus Community Center. The Nez Perce Tribe commission was formed separately from the Idaho state athletic commission and therefore is not subject to the same rules and regulations as the athletic commission. Without the official regulation of the Idaho State Athletic Commission and the Association of Boxing Commissions (which oversee all state commissions) the Barkley and Mamby fights will be considered to be unsanctioned.
