Neighbor is moving, he only moved in about 2 years ago, has a pool table, never set it up.

He will give it to me free, says it could use new felt. I looked at it, but its hard to tell being in pieces.

Says its about 20 years old, paid $1,000 then.

7 foot table, slate. I guess the slate is in maybe 3 pieces. He says you put it down then put concrete patch or something between the sections.

Its not a cheap-ass table by the looks of it.

How much would it cost me to set it up good, with maybe new rails and felt ?

Seems to me it only cost $100-150 to refelt bar tables when I worked in bars, but they did it rarely.

Can I do it myself ?

Does this sound like a reasonable thing to accept for free ?

I don't want it to be a money pit, on the edge as to taking it or not. Not sure how much I'd use it. I used to play 5-6 hours a day, but I was playing on company time, haven't played much in many years.

I like jobs where you can play pool most of your shift, those are hard to find !

I think I can pull off the assembly no problem of the base, and slate sections, and filling in the gaps with concrete patch, ( but I've never done it before).

The re-felt and rails would be a 1st as well. Thanks for advice, I'm debating taking it or not ?

solid lean to taking it, as you say its not a cheap crap thing with fold-up legs.

I'm used to playing on awful tables, this one has potential !

Average bartable hasn't seen new felt in 5 years, or condo table.

Little downside to taking it, and putting say $300 into it. I would think I could CL it anytime later and get $500 for it. I could also flat sell it as is for maybe a couple hundred, but that's against the spirit of taking it as a gift.

In short the guy said something to my wife about a pool table, I then told the guy I'd shoot him some pool sometime, since he has a table ( didn't know he never set it up at that time). He's pissed at the condo association here, decides to move since he's getting re-married, tells me I can have the table if I want it. ( some few weeks later)

The guy is likely a millionaire, 60ish, doesn't care about the pool table.

I lean to taking it in the spirit intended.

on a serious note go to a bar where they have a pool league and ask them. or if you have a pool hall near there.

also are you near springfield mass?? a guy by the name of al holmes does it. he's actually closer to greenfield mass.

I'm going to have to pass on the table, did some measurements, and my basement isn't big enough, you need 5' off of every side off the table for the pool cue, I don't have that clearance.

It would be like that Seinfeld episode !

Levistep : you want a pool tale, or somebody else close to Old Saybrook ,CT ? The man would likely give it to anybody I send there, or just give it to anybody. He don't care about trying to get a reasonable $200 for it.

take the table, whether you put it in your house or not take the table.

try and find a bar or tavern some where close to you and try and put it in their establishment. or find a place opening up.

for $300-$500 you can have it fully set up by a billiards business in town to you.

then you can split the profit with the establishment.

I have 5 bar tables in two different bars close to me and on a good month I clear about $1500.

but you could make easily $300 a month, and a pool table dont eat. only makes money.

it will be the easiest money you ever made.

not a coin op table, don't see why a bar needs to pay me for a table, more like a pool hall.

I don't see why a place of business can't do their own pool table, and pays me $300/ month rent for some pool table, not like I'm a pilot of a small airplane pulling there banner in the sky, its just a Fucking pool table !

I give permission to Rx mods to give you my main one that I check regularly, there is another joke one in my profile, that I check like monthly, but it is a real addy.

Wife seems to want her daughter and boyfriend to get this table now for some stupid reason, no indication that they want it. She can load it into my truck and deliver it herself then.

I think that phase will pass, and the guy (Bill) would give it to anybody I sent there, not exactly Old Saybrook but close, I don't like to put down my precise town location.

Once the dumb wife gets her nose out of it, I'll connect you with the guy, you talk to him, he's a good guy. I'd even help you load it.

no apologies needed, but most bar tables I've ever seen are awful, should be re-covered every year, instead of every decade. Pool halls do better,a place like a Pinkees ( sp ?)

wife just pisses me off ! I say the table isn't going to work in the space, it was offered to ME, doesn't mean it can automatically go to anybody free.

If wife's daughter's BF wants it ( never even did she ask him, yet) and it goes against the spirit of the offer, the guy can drive his truck the 25 miles here to look at it, and pick it up. He has a 35K 2007 Chevy 2500 4X4, I have a 5k 2000 Ford F-150, not like the guy doesn't have a truck !

I haul stuff myself, but not free ! I loan my truck free to friends free, but not to people that own better trucks.

Dude is a cool dude, probably knows nothing about the pool table, has loaned me his new truck before I bought the used one, I now have.

Wife just causing trouble.

5doors: Good chance you can get it. Needs to clear the wife shit now, I don't think this guy will want it ( wife's daughter's BF).

I'll tell Bill ( when I see him around), and pass the wife hurdle... the truth !

Some guy is willing to drive down from NH to get it, he wants it... would you be willing to give it to this guy ?

He probably would say... YES !

I'll connect you and him if that works, I think it will be available to you, and you can work out details of contact thru me.

I'd haul it to NH myself, but I'm not cheap. Better to do it yourself.

you can refelt it yourself. it is actually pretty easy.it depends on the cushion conditions as too how much it would cost. your looking at between 150-200 for the felt. If your serious i bought my felt from tablefelt.com i refelted my own table 2 years ago and it is still going strong.
