Ok I have a scan disk jump drive that I keep basically everything that I can possibly keep stored on. Yeah you know where this is going. I have financial info. pictures, music. everything

God this makes me sick! Anyway I got a new computer with Window's vista. I was trying to use the jumpdrive on this computer but it was not supported.

I go to the jumpdrives web site Scandisk.com and try to download the driver or whatever you call it to make it work on this new computer.

Well you know how it is when you down load something you just click "next" until its finished.

When I get done with this process I can get onto the jump drive now but all my shit is gone. Years worth of shit we're talking here.

I mean this has totally made me miserable. I keep thinking of shit I had on there and literally get sick to my stomach.

Ok I guess I get to here "you should have backed it up you dumb fuck" You're right, but I didn't.

Oh well off to take some pills.

Hydro? Oxy?

Man, that really sucks. My laptop's hard drive crashed a few years ago and I lost everything - I know the feeling.

Opted for the perky-klonopin kocktail. feel great now but i'll want to jump off a building tomorrow.

From what you described I doubt the info is gone - sounds like you're not reading the device. Take it to a geek.

I think you might be right. Maybe it's just Vista that isn't reading it.

$tinky, have you tried putting the drive in your old computer? Chances are it may still read it.

On a related note, I use a separate hard drive and backup software to clone my whole hard disk. I just set it up to back up over night. I use Acronis software as a backup along with a laptop hard drive in a NexStar external harddrive case as an enclosure.

Hard drive crashes? No problem. Simply put your backed up hard drive in your computer and you are back to where you were the last time you backed up your system. Total time: 1/2 hour.

Shit, I forgot. I haven't backed up my computer in more than a couple months. I'll have to do it tonight.

I tried it on the old computer and that does not work either. I'm gonna try and take it to a data recovery place Monday morning. I can't begin to explain how much work I'm gonna have to do over should I not be able to recover my files.

QL thanks for the advice. that is a good idea, wish i could go back and do it saturday morning lol.

its a common error. don't sweat it.
