Asked this in the fantasy section but didn't get a ton of response.

Will be playing in my first fantasy baseball money league this year - each team gets to keep 4 players. Roto league with no limits - uses Avg, OPS, RBI, HR, R, SB and W, ERA, BAA, WHIP, K, SV

Team I am taking over has the following as options that I am considering: CC Sabathia, Carlos Zambrano, David Wright, Adam Dunn, JJ Putz, Troy Tulowitzki, BJ Upton

Really new to fantasy baseball and am torn on who to keep after Wright and CC. Should I go with the strategy of taking guys that play positions that are hard to fill (Upton, Tulo) or go with guys that put up the bigger numbers (Dunn). Putz may be the top closer in the game - saves seem to be easy to come by but his other numbers have also been lights out for 2 years straight. Any help anybody can offer would be much appreciated.

I changed my mind a little bit.

Wright is the obvious keeper.
I like Putz as the second best.
Tulowitzki as 3rd best.
Sabathia or Dunn as 4th.

Those are the four definite ones in my opinion.

Zambrano's stats are declining a bit. Dunn and Sabathia is neck and neck. Sabathia's last year is likely going down as his best. I don't see him pitching 240 innings again. Starting pitching is pretty nice this year.

Jake - I forgot to include Upton in my previous post. Buddy of mine said I should keep him. What do you think about him?

Depends. What positions is he eligible for in your league?

POSITION ELIGIBILITY
Games Played Last Season 20
Games Played Current Season 10

So 2B (being the key) and OF

Upton's an extremely solid player (OF or IF) and will put up decent to above average numbers in almost all of your hitting categories.
I think Sabathia, Upton, and Wright are no-brainer keepers. Definitely wouldn't keep Putz. Closers are a dime a dozen. Seriously. Look at last year's scrap heap. There are a ton of closers out there who aren't great, but are serviceable, and they only really help in one category, so why waste a keeper on them?
Dunn is guaranteed power, but low average. I'd consider him as i don't trust Zambrano or Tulowitzki at all.

Hitting is much more predictable from year-to-year so they make the better keepers.

Derrek Lee is also an option, another buddy of mine tonight suggested I keep him

If it came down to Lee or Dunn, I keep Dunn. Lee hasn't the same player for the last 1.5 years now. Baker will help Dunn.

Thanks for the help guys. Alright have decided to definitely keep Wright, CC, and Upton. My last keeper will be either (in order I am leaning towards) 1) Tulo 2) Dunn 3) Putz. Any last minute suggesstions? Keepers are due Friday

Putz... Best reliever in the game the last two years. He only has a few years left but will help you win during those years. Why you keeping CC over Tulo or Putz exactly?

Tulo or Dunn--I'd go with Tulowitzki. If he's even decent on the road, he'll help at a relatively weak position. Putz is not a whole lot better than draftable/waiver ready alternatives and only helps you in one category.

?

Saves he is near the best at. ERA and WHIP are ridiculously small. Won't help with wins but no closer will. Strikes out 80 guys a year which isn't bad for a closer.

Ok, but how many guys does Sabbathia, or an above average sp, strike out? Putz' ERA and WHIP are (have been) ridiculously small, but so has his sample size. A guy with 70ish innings isn't going to have near the affect on those categories that a guy with 200ish will. His impact in every category except saves is negligible when compared to other closers.
