Do you realize that If I would have made $3000 less, I would have paid $2600 less in taxes.

If I would have know that I would have taken the last week of the year off.

That really gets me motivated to make more money.

Yes indeed. If you are single you can put 4k into an IRA before April 15 and deduct that from your taxable income. Anyone who has the money should be doing this every year. Married couples can tuck away 4k x 2.

I already have both my IRAs maxed out.

Oh yea, I also found out today that im not going to get the full $600 from the stimulous package.

They only give the full $600 to people who dont have jobs.

All I know is the tax person told me that I would have been much better off making 3K less.

We tried like hell to come up with another 3k in deductions, but anything more would have been begging for an trouble and bending the rules.

Your tax guy is an idiot, or explained it to you wrong. IF your guy said this you better find someone else. $3000 may move you from a 28% backet to a 33% bracket but you don't pay the 5% increase on all your income just the amount that took you above the lower backet.
