Rockets center Yao Ming will miss Tuesday's game against the Wizards and could be out longer because of a sore left foot.

The Rockets plan to announce a diagnosis Tuesday afternoon and it sounds as if he could miss multiple games with the injury. We're guessing Dikembe Mutombo will start at center, but the Rockets could go small and move Luis Scola there, giving Carl Landry or Chuck Hayes the start at power forward. While this is a huge blow to fantasy owners, it will also put the Rockets' 12-game winning streak in jeopardy.

KRIV-TV in Houston and The Houston Chronicle are reporting that Yao has a stress fracture in his left foot and the Rockets are expected to announce he will have season-ending surgery later Tuesday.

Houston, currently on a 12-game winning streak, is in fourth place in the Southwest Division. The streak followed a loss in the one game that Yao has missed all season.

The 7-foot-6 Yao is averaging 22.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in 55 games this season.

The way these things usually go is play the Rockets tonight and then bet against them. Normally everyone else plays above their capabilities, rallies around the cause for a game or two, then reality sets in.

Wiz playing 4th in 5 nights, also. Not worth much now. No onewith heavy minutes last night though. Maybe Rockets will give an out-sized effort in first game after Ming going out. My only straw to grasp at I know!
