Here is an example. Line is Yankees -170 and the runline -1.5 is Yankees +130:

Bet $170 on the moneyline to win $100
Bet $100 on the -1.5 runline to win $130

If the Yankees win by 2 or more, you win $230
If the Yankees win by 1, you win $100 on the -170 bet and lost $100 on the -1.5 runline so net is zero.

Basically betting $270 to win $230 so it's like a -1 runline at -117 (270/230). Like to use -1 runlines when I like a game that's around -170 since don't like to bet high lines in baseball.

And if you want to make some serious coin playing dogs, play 1 unit on the dog, and .5 unit on the dog laying 1.5.

You'll thank me.

You want the actual algebra, I'll dig it up in awhile if nobody else posts it.

actually the best way is to choose between ML and RL, and ride it out.

Spreadsheet to calculate the plays for playing a favorite -1 in post 37

http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=483031&page=2

Instructions:

input the lines in cell b3 and b5
if you want to WIN a fixed amount of money, input that amount in cell b8 and you would RISK the amounts in b9 and b10.
if you want to RISK a fixed amount of money, input that amount in b12 and you would RISK the amounts in b13 and b14

As an FYI, some websites offer -1 lines. Generally making your own -1 line gives you slightly better odds than the -1 line that they offer.

I disagree. Just believe in doing whatever it is you are comfortable with. And especially when you're betting on a home team that's a large favorite, that -1 can come in handy. Of course people only remember bad beats for the most part, so all it takes is one team to blow a -1.5 in the 9th inning to start turning people on to -1 lines.

I followed you last year. You're a good capper. How many games did you push -1 as a result of not playing the ML?

It evens out.
