I've got an IBM Thinkpad T60.

It has a small switch on the front of the computer to turn on the built-in wireless ethernet card, then a small led lights up just below the computer screen that looks like a light tower.

Anyways, reloaded XP Pro onto the computer and turn the switch on for the ethernet card and nothing happens, led doesn't light up and won't connect to internet.

Any ideas?!?!

i think you need the driver.....check w/ IBM

Nice call. When reloading the OS on a laptop, you'll definitely need to get a LOT of software(drivers) from their site. All kinds of brand specific stuff on laptops that isn't native to XP (or any other operating system for that matter.

IMB has all the drivers on their site very helpful and easy to find. I love the older think pads as you can almost throw them out of a moving car and they wont break.

Seeing you normally have the right answer on this sort of thing...

I copied the Driver Cache before re-formatting

Can I just drop that bitch in and roll?

Tough call with a laptop. Ideally, I'd go to their site & get all the drivers(or better yet, an image of a restore CD that will have everything) and burn it to a CD.

If you tear it up, do you have another machine that you can burn a cd from?

(I wouldn't just drop it in.....may cause more problems that it solves)

Why not just download the drivers and install? It takes literally 2 minutes. Hell, give us your info and we'll find them for you.

I headed to this site

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-62928.html

I download the 'Think Advantage SystemUpdate' onto my USB harddrive so I can reboot with the OS (partitioned harddrive ,seperate OS)

I reboot with the newly formatted OS and go ahead and try to install the SystemUpdate but it requires connectivity to the internet, so no go.

So I head back to the website I posted above and download this file 'ThinkPad 802.11a/b/g/n, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter' - Same process as above with USB and such. Not having success.

Can I download all the drivers I need without hte ThinkAdvantage SU or what's the best plan?
I have been downloading everything onto my external USB drive and then copying to the newly formatted OS desktop and running. But not having success.

Wait, what OS are you using on your 2nd partition--Ubuntu?

Download the individual drivers onto your USB. Make sure that you get the right version of Vista (32-bit or 64-bit). Then install.

Try going into the control panel & looking for stuff with red "!" next to them & there should be an options to update driver. Then browse to your USB drive & see if it finds a matching file.

"add new hardware" is another option that you can try

(Yes, this can be a real bitch with laptops)

MIMS-
I've got XP running on both partitions..

I created a new partition which I installed a new version of XP on and kept a partition with the existing version incase something funny happened.

So I downloaded the individual drivers for ethernet connections and such to my USB then onto the other partition.

Thanks TTinCO

I have to keep rebooting to get back and forth between OS so I can use the 'net and download shit. Real pain as you said.

Have you tried to reinstall windows XP? You need the service pack 2 version. The only driver I needed after I did that was for the sound card and video card when I put XP on my IMP think Pad 600 and also a T40. You may check Ebay sometimes you can find a cd with all the drivers for $10 already made. I know it is alot but it saves on headaches which is worth 1 million dollars sometimes.
