Look for news on New England Patriot Free Agent All-Pro CB Assante Samuels next - leading contender for his services at an atronomical six year $60 Million Dollar contract are the Philadelphia Eagles.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From ESPN.com:
An all-night negotiations session with the Minnesota Vikings produced a deal that has made Madieu Williams a formal Bengal and now one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL.

Williams, 26, agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract Friday morning after his agent, Ken Zuckerman, and Minnesota officials worked through the night to get a deal done.

As both sides spelled out the final language of the contract, Williams headed to the airport Friday morning for a flight to Minneapolis to sign the deal.

The contract tops Deon Grant's five-year, $31.8 million deal that was the highest of the free agent safety class of 2007. Williams was considered one of the top safeties in free agency this year and his presence will fill a big need in the Vikings secondary.

Williams is known more for his coverage skills than his hitting, and the Vikings wanted to shore up some of their pass-coverage deficiencies.

Odd. Well, I guess they needed somebody to replace Dwight "let's have sex in a stairwell and get stoned" Smith. But 33 mil? Yikes.

why? You wanted to pay 33 mil for Williams?

Fuck no. But when your defense is giving up 40 points a game, it's not encouraging to be losing one of the few good players

lol. I think the guy from Notre Dame(I wont attempt to spell either first or last name) can fill in decent enough... I'm happy about Shaun Rogers, really happy, I don't care if he is on the downside of his career or not, immed upgrade at the point of attack.

Williams was not worth even close to that much, now if dumbfuck brown would use that money wisely we'd be in business which wont happen

You're right that no one on our defense (including Madieu) is worth that kind of money. However, Rogers got traded to the Browns not the Bengals.

Can't believe he signed for that much. Bengals have a shit load of work to do, they best get busy.

I would be glad to see J. Smith go, he as yet to produce a double digit sack season and he's getting up there in years too

Savage is one of the best GM's in football and he is turning the Browns into one of the best teams in football (who the hell saw this coming 1 year ago?)

Williams and Rogers will turn the Browns DL from a huge weak spot to a strength just like Steinbach and Thomas did for the OLine last season.

Best part about it, all of the Browns core players are real young.

Anderson, Quinn, Edwards, Sean Jones, B Pool, D Jackson, E Wright, B McDonald, Wimbley, Thomas, Winslow all 25 or younger.

Williams, Rogers, Stallworth, Steinbach, Davis, S Smith under 30.

Gonna be fun for the next few years in Cleveland!

I have been watching Smith since his rookie year, what in the world did the rest of the NFL see that would make them want to sign him? Was it his 2 sacks?

The best thing you hear about him is he plays hard, sure that is good but is that really all you want from a guy. Hell, i'd play hard!
