I can't understand why coaches don't foul up 3 with less than 10 seconds.

Too many factors have to occur for the opponent to beat or tie you if you foul.

Well, more like 5 seconds. Fouling with 10 is way too early. Especially in the NBA, when you can call TO and advance the ball to halfcourt.

(possibly the most ridiculous rule in sports. Automatically advancing the ball to halfcourt? How does that make ANY sense? Imagine if baseball teams were allowed to put a runner on 1st to start the 9th inning. Or if football teams were allowed to start at the 50 during the last 2 minutes.)

What you think there is something wrong with a team in the NFL moving the ball from their own 20 to the opponents 20 with 10 seconds lefts, if they have 1 timeout.

I am actually curious as to when this bs rule was put into place, it needs to be abolished.

I think 10 is too much time (like above poster)

5 or less, i can go either way....but i would probably guard the 3-pt line tight as hell and give up the under....

nothing worse than giving up 3 FTs in the closing seconds of a 3-pt game....let alone a 4-pt play

Phil did that today and ended up in OT. Bruiser Flint did that 2 weeks ago and lost in OT.

Dallas didn't have any timeouts left and the Lakers were up by 3. Kidd got the ball inside the 3-point arc so you foul him then. Especially when you have an outside threat like Dirk. It's not like he never drained one from 3-point range.

I had the under 104 1/2 for the 2nd half.

The T.V. guys were begging Phil to foul and did say that Jackson doesn't foul in that situation.

Sure enough, but Dirk inbounded and then no one guarded him.

Needed the plus points so all's well that ends well.

These are 2 on the top my mind. If you foul, they have to make the 1st miss the 2nd get the rebound, and make a shot.

Let them shoot and they just need to make 1 shot.

listen bud...I understand the "CONCEPT" for making the foul...just a lot of if's, and's, what if a lane violation, an over the back, a tip in... just my opinion....peace

When has anyone seen a foul up 3 late in the game hurt the team with the lead?

I've seen exactly zero...

I've seen it. Team up 3 points fouls, guy hits the first free throw, misses the second free throw. The team down 2 grabs the offensive rebound, gets the put back and is fouled again. Guy hits the free throw and the team that was up by 3 is now losing the game by 1. This scenario and the scenario where the team is trying to foul and they accidentally foul the guy while he attempts a 3 pointer is the reason coaches don't foul in this situation.

Ok, there is one example. Now list examples of the other team hitting a 3 to force OT. Dirk yesterday...

That list is a TAD longer.

I agree, foul the man on that play, he should not go inside the arc.
It helped me because I had over.
