All the mods that I know past and present were posters first then became moderators for one reason or another later. Loyalty to the site, ability to write well, general knowledge of sports and gambling, temperment, and probably the most important asset anymore is patience with others and the ability to remain calm and courteous everyday.
From the movie Roadhouse where the main character James Dalton (played by Patrick Swayze) explains how to be a bouncer to his new employees:
Dalton: If somebody gets in your face and calls you a xxxxsucker, I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal.
Dalton: I want you to be nice until it's time to not be nice.
Lesson here is that mods need to be nice for as long as possible or until it's time to not be nice. Luckily the time to not be nice is very infrequent here at The Rx.com..However it does occur occasionally..
