<!-- end player card --> Jones agreed to a four-year deal worth around $3 million a year. The contract was similar to the five-year, $14 million contract reached with halfback T.J. Duckett earlier this week.
With Jones and Duckett entering the season, the question is whether or not Shaun Alexander will be around. The Seahawks decided to keep Alexander until they found replacements and now they have two potential replacements.
Jones is expected to compete for the starting job. Duckett was signed to be a short-yardage back as well as a backup fullback and power back. Jones is considered a more elusive back than Duckett.
Jones' final two choices were Seattle or Detroit although he had interest from the Bears and Eagles for potential visits next week. He had also visited with the Tennessee Titans.

I like it. Seems more teams are becoming very successful running a 2 back offense. Whether Alexander is still around or not I think it will be a nice boost to their backfield.

Wha? We just signed Duckett the other day, now Jones? We have 4 legitimate backs on the roster now. Depth is good, but that's to much.

Alexander is gone...

Not to hard to figure out.

Doesn't make sense to cut him this season, maybe next season though. Ruskell might be seeing if a fire is lit under Shaun by bringing in Jones. Mo Morris is a goner for sure though.

I guess this means the Cowboys are taking a certain back from Arkansas...

The Cowboys never had any plans on resigning Jones because they know Barber is more than capable carrying the rock 25 times a game or more if needed.

But it's reported that Jerry Jones wants Felix Jones badly.

(You have to keep up with the Joneses in this thread.) :lolBIG:

Its just the way of the NFL, they see success in other Teams with multi backs and follow suit, it doesnt hurt that Backs are getting used to this approach. As for Seattle, I think Alexander got a bit predictable for opposing D's and Jones will make them think twice what the call is. :drink:

I think losing Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones getting up there in age had way more to do with Alexander's issues personally. If you look back at some of his great runs, he had massive holes. Without those holes, he can't gain the yards he used to. Plus I'm sure his body has to be wearing down as well.

The same thing with Julius Jones. If the hole isn't there, he doesn't go anywhere.

Agree 100%. Hutchinson really was the heart of the team in '05. Made all the difference in the world. Guards can have that kind of effect on the team.

Thats the same for 99% of running backs, Barber has different formations and options in a Game for Him depending on Down and distance but I'm not arguing who is better. Bottom line is the NFL are forever looking for players to be multi skilled no matter what position they play. :drink:

I think shaun is gone. and that is fine with me. morris will probably want to leave soon I think. I personally like the change in the backfield. This offense will have a new face this year. possibly two new backs sharing time, a new fullback, a new tightend. we need linemen now.

Wow running backs dont last long. Shaun Alexander goes from being an NFL MVP to being cut, to me in what seems like overnight.

I guess its better not to waste your top pick on a RB.

Alexander is a chump. Funny how he goes from MVP, gets his money, then disappears...typical. Now Seattle gets a rb who gets injured twice a season.

Well, one good one to start. He is better than anyone they have on the roster, no?

He's an average NFL RB. Personally, I think both Alexander and possibly Duckett are better. Mercury Morris is right in line with Jones. Maybe it's my Cowboy hatred showing through, but Julius Jones doesn't do anything that's special. He's a solid RB, but isn't above average at anything really.
