Chips are down for Las Vegas

If any more evidence is needed that the US economy is in trouble, it can be found in Las Vegas, where gambling revenues are falling for the first time since 2001.
The city has been on a roll for seven years, fuelled by increased tourism and domestic spending, with visitors flocking to the new generation of resort casinos that have sprung up along the Las Vegas Strip.
But with belts being tightened across the US, not even the weak dollar and high-spending international tourists have been able to pull Las Vegas out of a slump.

Noticed airfare from my area to Vegas is down a good 20% from two months ago. And that's with high oil prices.

Jack room prices up a bit more. WTF is the average price per night on the strip now? They act like it's Maui, but I guess that as long as they could pull it off, they pushed it as far as they could.

I was going to say the same thing. I used to stay at the Boardwalk for dirt cheap. Now you can't even stay at the Trop or Excalibur for a reasonable price. Last time I was there (about a year ago) I stayed at the Riviera, a crappy hotel with a crappy location for way too much money.

Food price Hotel price everything is up and they think people are going to flock to spend money. I remember 10 years ago I could take $9000 for gambling and 1k for air and room and food for ten days. Now it cost alot more and you stay in a dump like the Riviera.

if you got 9k to gamble with, why are you paying for a room?????? you could go with 5k and room and food and limo are free at a very nice hotel.

10 years ago, I would get a week comped at MGM for what I played on the tables. Now I can't even get a night comped for playing the same amounts. F*ck them they are getting what they deserve. I only hope it gets worse.

Agree totally. Hilton use to give me limo, food, the whole nine yards, no lucky to get a room and a $25 voucher, fuck them, hope it gets worse

If you mean literally the same amount, then it's hardly surprising, it's called inflation..

Must not go to vegas often. Comps arn't what they used to be by in to a black jack table for $2500 lose it all and ask what you get a buffett big deal. If your lucky you get a nights stay. In the early 90s they would take care of you much more. Im not sure what you consider a nice hotel but Holidasy Inn Select is ok I guess if you 21. 10k will not make you a whale.

Yes I remember in 99 room (only two in room) flight for four days thursday to Sunday only $360 at Stratsphere and Excalibur!! Remember thinking $500 too much for Bellaigio! And the comps were amazing at the MGM!!!!
