Anyone ever make this drive between Reno and Vegas on route 95? Looks like its about 450 miles and it is NOT an interstate. Is this just a 2 lane highway (one lane in each direction) the whole way? Or is any part of this highway 4 lanes? The drive looks brutal. Just wanted some opinions.

I would rather dig the hole and install a Koi pond in the backyard than make that drive.

Love the drive.......wide open space.

Done it a few times.

Exactly. Driving in the wide open space going through what are pretty much ghost towns. I loved it.....Well up until I got the 94 mph speeding ticket.....

One of the nicest drives I've made was from Reno to Elko, NV. I imagine a lot of the landscape is the same. As a sidenote, you can generally fly direct from Reno to Vegas for about $65 one way, taxes included.

Re

We live in AZ. We usually just go to California for a few days during the summer for our family vacations. Was thinking of driving up to San Francisco from LA since I have never been to SF. From there we would drive over to the Reno/Tahoe area, then back down through Las Vegas on the way home. Every drive between each major city looked "do-able" in 5 or 6 hours. The only stretch that looked brutal was the one between Reno and Vegas.

Does anyone remember if this is just a 2 lane highway? Thanks guys.

Made the drive in 2005 to visit my brother who was visiting Reno. Not very scenic, couple nice spots, but brutally long drive.

Also, there are 2 "dips" in the road that act like an optical illusion where they can hide an oncoming car. We almost found out the hard way while trying to pass a Wal-Mart semi.

Wouldn't do that drive ever again if I had a choice.

I drive this route quite often as recently as last October. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I really can't understand what's so awful about it. 450 miles and 7 hours at the most. Some friends and I drove from Portland to tijuana stopping only for gas so this one seems like a side trip to me !

That settles it...It's WED/DAY

Most boring desert scenery I've ever seen. Mohave and Sonaran deserts are far more scenic. Was a relief to get to Falon.

If we're ever driving back to the Pacific North West we now take US 93 through Eastern Nevada. Its very pretty while Wendover is a good day's drive.

Take an extra day and drive from Reno to Wells or Wendover then down to Las Vegas. Far more scenic. Thank me later.

Its a two lane highway but basically deserted since no-one wants to drive it. US 93 is also 2 lane but very quiet. Check the AAA map and see how much is labelled scenic!
