This gas situation is beyond repair, Ethanol is a joke/no real answer. Where are the affordale and dependale Electric cars or Hydrogen fuel cells?

I am seriously starting to get depressed as we are getting to the point of no return on Oil, its like the world went and put all its eggs in one basket and now we have few if any alternatives to fix it.

Its pretty scary stuff to think what the next 10 years could bring. And Bush's policies will take at least a decade or more to undue. The harm his policies have caused in the last 7 years are astonishing..

When oil runs out, engineers will find a way to build them or they'll all be taking the bus; and you know that no one wants to take the bus.

Electric or solar would be great.........

However, in the next 10 years, ethanol is the alternative......with E-20 and E-85 beginning to become more popular as time passes.

Ethanol is in stage 3 of 8 of becoming a mainstay.........and is right on course for us involved in ethanol.

If all farmers grow corn for ethanol, you'll really see the price increases for food. We are screwed as a country.

already happening. corn is up because of ethanol, wheat and other s are up because less is being planted as farmers opt for corn.

your robbing peter to pay paul with ethanol. it isnt the answer at all. and poor people get hit hard with rising food prices. there have been some riots from poor people in Mexico over the increased price of staples like corn tortillas.

This is the notion and it has happened as we speak and is going to continue to do so.

At the end of 2006, 14% of the corn produced in this country was used for ethanol.........and by the end of this year, it will be anywhere from 25-35%.

Again, as I've stated numerous times here, corn based ethanol is not the longterm solution, but it used now until we find a way to produce ethonal from other plants and waste............until that time(probably somewhere around 2012), corn will definetly be the #1 ingredient for these beginning stages of ethanol.

As CY1981 stated, food is relatively cheap compared to gasoline, perhaps it should cost more.

We didnt invest in getting our own oil. drilling in Alaska gets blocked. no new refineries, no drilling elsewhere. oil is bad.

so now we pay our enemies $108 a barrel while our economy is imploding, countries like Russia are getting f'ing rich.

we are going to lose our superpower status and nobody has to fire a shot. russia, china et all know this

and it doesnt help our ecomony much the amount of money we are hemmoraging every day in Iraq

GM was really promoting the Flex-Fuel cars at the Chicago Car Show last month.

Truly amazing the oil companies have record profits, but no one builds refineries.

Mr. Smith-----this is only the beginning.....oil will probably go to $125 soon.

Start using ethanol.......in any variety, but buying a E-85 capable vehicle would be your best bet.

Would it be cheaper for you than gasoline......perhaps not, but we are not using foreign oil and you are making a statement..................and as stated, in 5 years or so, we will be able to produce ehtanol here at home from waste and grass.

prices of food and gasoline are going to keep going up. no doubt about it.

ethanol is hardly a "green" option though. it sounds good, support farmers, gas from corn. but it makes food prices rise and a lot of ethanol is imported from Brazil. there they cut down rainforest and plant corn. ethanol isnt really all that "green"

Ethanol burns at about 2/3's the efficientcy as regular gas...so what you save in cost, which isn't a whole lot, you waste in MPG...So its a zero sum game Fish

Unless you live in a city, ethanol is not an option. I agree with the basic premise however.

Some of the things I distribute have gone up three times in 15 months.

its hard not to have a gloomy outlook these days. dollar keeps dropping, stock market is in a spiral, ecomony is a mess, job layoffs, prices of everything going up. etc

seems like there never is any good news, just more bad.

as far as gas prices, I just shake my head driving around at the # of big pickups and SUVs being driven. Im fine with it if you need a pcikup to haul stuff for work or something, but most people who buy pickups or SUV's dont even need them, they just like the way they look. such a waste. its not too surprising gas costa so much when you take a look at what else is on the road next to you
