Tampa Hard Rock To Offer Vegas Slots This Summer

By TED JACKOVICS of The Tampa Tribune
Published: March 12, 2008
TAMPA - The Seminole Tribe of Florida today said it expects to begin offering early this summer Las Vegas-style slot machine gambling at its Hard Rock Casino in Tampa.
The Seminole Tribe also said it plans to hire about 1,000 new employees, many of whom will be hired as dealers for the Tampa Hard Rock where blackjack, baccarat and pai gow poker will be offered beginning this fall, Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner said.
Overall, Hard Rock said it is seeking to hire 3,650 blackjack dealers for its seven Florida casinos.
But recruiting for those jobs probably won't be done in Tampa, Bitner said, although experienced dealers in the area are welcome to apply.
People interested in jobs as dealers, floor supervisors, pit managers, cage managers and casino shift managers can apply online at workhardrock.com or by faxing a résumé to (813) 620-6308.
The Seminoles plan to recruit primarily in New Jersey, Mississippi and Connecticut, where other casinos offer high-stakes card games.
The Seminoles opened the first 1,000 Vegas-style slot machines in the state this year in Hollywood. The tribe opened an additional 700 slot machines at its Coconut Creek casino in South Florida today.

Seminoles hold A.C. job fair for 3,650 casino dealer jobs
By WILLIAM H. SOKOLIC

The Seminole Tribe of Florida came to Atlantic City Tuesday looking to fill more than 3,650 dealer jobs.
The jobs are expected to begin in June as part of a deal between Florida and the tribe that permits table games at their casinos. The prior pact allowed only slot-style games.
The job fair continues today at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Atlantic City is the first gaming location visited by Hard Rock Seminole Casino representatives out of Hollywood, Fla.
"I love the Borgata, but I love South Florida, too," Tom Scully of Mount Laurel, a Borgata dealer, said as he waited for a second interview Tuesday afternoon. "It'll be tough to leave Borgata. Still, I'm excited about the newness and getting in on the ground floor."
Tuesday featured a constant stream of dealers with long lines waiting for interviews. More than 500 passed through by 11 a.m.
"This is beyond our expectations," said Dawn Neils, a corporate rep from the Seminoles.
The Florida weather attracted Vanessa Pickens, 23, of Sicklerville. She has four years of experience at the Taj Mahal, where her father is a pit boss.
"I deal blackjack, roulette and three-card poker," said Pickens, in line for her first interview.
Blackjack is one of three games approved under last November's compact. The other two are baccarat and pai gow.
The company chose Atlantic City to begin its dealer search because the city's 12.9 percent unemployment rate is higher than in other gaming jurisdictions and well above the national average of 5.8 percent, Neils said.
"This gives experienced dealers without a job an opportunity," she said.
Hard Rock will also conduct searches at two casinos in Connecticut and in the Biloxi-Tunica area of Mississippi. It is looking to fill positions at the Hard Rock casinos in Hollywood and Tampa, Fla., and five other Seminole casinos throughout the state.
"We're contemplating Las Vegas, as well," Neils said.
In addition to the dealers, the Seminoles are shopping for 350 casino floor managers and credit employees at all levels.
Those who get a recommendation after the interview process are drug tested and fingerprinted at the convention center in preparation for the job.
"This is one-stop shopping," said Beth Joseph, a spokeswoman for Masterpiece Advertising, which is assisting the Seminoles in the recruitment process.

AC winter weather vs. Florida winter weather, hmmm. They might as well organize a caravan down I-15.
