Really a great time..especially if you like wine, You can tast wines many times that you never get a chance to taste..and you can buy wines many times at a very nice discount..I go to them 4 or 5 times a year

But that's the wrong reason to go to one of those. You're better off staying home, drinking a bottle of vodka and ordering a pizza.

I don't want to get too drunk because I'm going to drive home eventually.

I've been drinking more wine than beer lately and would like to sample some new stuff and maybe learn a few things.

Is the crowd real snooty and do I have to dress up?

I figure $50 is a bargain for four hours of wines which probably go for between 10 and 30 a glass.

I'm sure I'll take a few souvenirs home as well.

Crowd isn't snooty at all. It's mostly people who are novices and want to learn about wines. If I were going to one, I'd wear slacks and a nice shirt or sweater. Nothing crazy.

Cool, thanks. I'm one of those novices and will wear slacks and a polo I guess.

It costs $50 but they do have VIP tickets for $125. Doubt I'll spring for the VIP.

What do you get for $125? I'm guessing a five course meal and various wines with each course?

It says hot appetizers matched to wine as opposed to cold appetizers and something called "Around the World".

I'm guessing that relates to the wines as opposed to what your local escort would call it.

Might miss a few confernce tournament games during this as well. I think the Mountain West championship kicks off at 4pm right in the middle of the wine-fest. I highly doubt they will have a sports bar there.

It's gotta be better than the Great American Beer Festival that they have out here every year. Nothing like mixing 10-40 heavy and\or high alcohol content beers over the course of a day. There's a reason why it's nicknamed the GA barf festival.

You get about 1/4 of a glass and you are expected to taste the wine, then spit it out into a bucket. Then you sip water to clear your pallet and move onto the next sample.

About 10 years ago when I was a server all the staff had a wine tasting with some special we were running. One of the busboys drank the entire spit bucket (about 1 litre) for $100 and the somehow worked his shift.

Gross.

OMG that's disgusting. That's worse than being the rookie server and having to drink the spillage that sits in the "drink mat" at the service bar.

Wine tastings are a great time. The last one I went to was "Wines of Chile" and there were great appys and tons of very nice wine to try.

Not sure if you're married or not, but there are few better places to meet women than a wine tasting event. Lots of smart classy women with an endless supply of things to start talking to them about...

Make sure you bring a pen and some paper to write down all the wines you like. Also, make sure to cleanse your palate with cheese or dip between tastes. Otherwise they will all start to taste the same after a while.

I have had several wine tasting parties at my home. Also have had beer tasting parties. All have been big successes. The rule is that once you bring the beverage in the house it is community property. Anyone can taste it and you can taste anyone else's.
