it could be therapeutic...

i'll go first...

i will never forget my mama coming into my younger brother's and my room and telling us she did not have enough money to send both of us to a brand new amusement park (carowinds) the next day,i think it was 9 or so dollars to get in...me and brother both cried and when we woke up next day,she had somehow found enough money overnight to send both of us...

unreal how that type of money can be construed as a burden in today's society...

i would like to think that i have more than made amends for this good deed..........but i think i have fallen short..

amazing how some things you see as a child you still remember 30+ years later.........

let's here them

Falling through the ice while playing out on a private lake when I was 12 years old..I was a goner about to go under for the last time when three teenage boys all of a sudden came by and pulled me out..I'll never forget it..Those guys were the only people anywhere around that whole area. I was very lucky they saw me through that little crack in the ice. I've also been in a couple car accidents where I saw my life flash before my eyes..But my worst memories are of the ice..I'll never again get close to a frozen lake.

Serious response to BUSTER's theme

Most impact and almost the furthest back was my then 6 year old brother coming home from school and sharing his reading lessons with me - a 3 year old.

He was very persistent for a couple years and when I entered first grade I was a solid couple years ahead of everyone else and it just kept rising from there (for reading comprehension that is....Still chasing in other areas of life...heh)

Losing my first C-note gambling.

I was about 5 years-old at the time.

Did you pay up on Tuesday as agreed, or did the Collections Dept have to send out a guy?

wasn't really a child, but, when I was 23 and home from law school for Xmas my grandmother had a heart attack, she was in the hospital and doing fine. I absolutely hate hospitals and only went to see her once, told her I would be back to see her on whatever day was coming up, didn't end up going (basically b/c I hate hospitals so much and b/c I assumed she would be fine), called and spoke to her, then never saw her again. Biggest regret of my life.

My bully older brother told me to climb down into a sleeping bag as far as I could go. Then he laid on the sleeping bag preventing me from getting out. I've been claustrophobic ever since.

Good thing my parents were there to bitch him out.

Little league baseball. Was 6 or 7 years old.

Standing out in right field (I was horrible) and had to piss in a bad bad way. Port o Johns were only a stones throw away, but I just couldn't run off the field....panic was definitely setting in...

Other team must of had a huge inning. I couldn't hold it. Just pissed my pants right out there in right field.

Dave Parker would have been proud.

Hitchhiking to the boardwalk in A.C. when I was 11...guy went past my stop where I wanted to get out...fortunately I bolted out of his car at the next red light...pretty afraid for the next couple of weeks, but continued to hitchhike, it was common in the 60's..

My dad was a tow truck driver for an auto wrecker. On Christmas Eve, he would drive around and give bottles of whiskey to the wreckers clients. I was about seven at the time and my dad thought it'd be a good father son bonding moment to bring me along this Christmas Eve.

As we delivered the bottles, my dad would have a drink with each client. My dad was work class drunk, would drink 24 beers and 26 oz of Rye in a sitting. His major problem was the more he drank the more of an asshole he became.

So on the last stop of the day we went in to a body shop and the guys working invited him to sit down and really have some drinks. We were there about an hour or two; I played with a big German Sheppard while they tossed back a couple bottles.
I remember this part clear as day, my dad told me to go wait in the car, being a good son did as I was told.

A few minutes later, my dad tumbled out of the front door with three guys punching and kicking him. Taking turns holding him and beating him. My dad was big man, 350lbs and biceps like bowling balls but these guys got the best of him. He finally fought his way to the truck and we sped out. He was covered in blood, he had the full crimson mask, He kept crying and sobbing “that’s not fair, 3 on 1, do you think that’s fair” being seven years old, I just looked at him stunned.

He was so drunk and probably had a concussion I’m surprised we even made it home.

27 years later, I remember clear as day, every Christmas Eve.

No doubt you heard about it again the next year during the airing of grievances.

That reminds me of my baseball story. I was a baseball nut as a kid. I read the box scores every day. I went out for the baseball team and went to all the practices and did quite well. I didn't get picked for the team because the coach picked his friend's kids instead.

I still went to the practices even after not getting picked. My mom went there and asked why I wasn't picked. So the coach came up to me in center field and talked to me why I wasn't picked.

Same thing happened in high school sports. The coaches pick the popular kids whether they were good or not. Same thing happens at work. The managers give raises to the people who kiss their ass and during layoffs keep those people.
