Cassell's late 3 helps Celtics claim come-from-behind win over Spurs

Sam Cassell lets loose a decisive 3-pointer which gives the Celtics their first lead with 46 seconds left.

SAN ANTONIO -- Paul Pierce scored 22 points, Kevin Garnett added 21 and the Boston Celtics rallied to beat the San Antonio Spurs 93-91 on Monday night.

Rajon Rondo added 20 points for the Celtics, who were still without Ray Allen, who missed his second straight game with a jammed left ankle. Sam Cassell had 17 points. He gave Boston its first lead of the fourth quarter with 46 seconds left when he hit a 3-pointer to make it 89-87.

Manu Ginobili had 32 points to lead the Spurs, who lost their season-high fourth straight. Tony Parker added 17 points and Tim Duncan scored 10.
San Antonio trailed 93-89 after Eddie House hit two foul shots for Boston to make it a two-possession game with 9.6 seconds left. Parker then got an easy basket for San Antonio but it appeared too late for the Spurs. But with two seconds left Bruce Bowen stole the ball from Garnett on the inbounds play and passed to Robert Horry, whose 3-point attempt missed. Horry sank to the ground, his head in his hands.

The Spurs have now lost six games at home this season. Their last home loss was Jan. 26 against the New Orleans Hornets.

Mr cleo you had a dodgy first Q but came to life in the 3rd. Having Cassel around will only help your game longterm.

Wow I never knew that. The similaritys are startling. If I didnt know any better I would go up to Mr. Cleo real nervous and say "Mr. Rondo, I really like your play with the Celtics this year can you sign this?"

I was at this game last night. It surprised me how many
Celtic fans dressed in green were at this game.

I am both a Celtics fan and a Spurs fan, but since I've been rooting
for the Celtics since childhood, I was pulling for the Celtics.

They couldn't do anything right in the first quarter, and were
down 22 early in the game. I was panicking because I organized
a group of 8 to drive down from Austin and see the game, and none
of us wanted to see a blow-out.

The Celtics were able to cut it to 11 I think at half-time, and some late
clutch plays by Sam Cassell, and Paul Pierce (who did very little most
of the game) enabled the Celtics to squeak it out at the end.

Manu played a great game, and I think ended up with 28. Tim started
off strong, but had a hard time with the double team, and didn't
do much after the first quarter.

One big complaint I have is that the friggen noise level in there is so
damn loud the whole game, with the piped in rock music and everything
else, that you end up with a head-ache by the end of the game. If they'd
turn down the noise level 20% I'd be much more apt to go to future
games.

I was bummed that Ray Allen wasn't able to play.. I heard he's also
out for tonight's game against Houston.

There's really only one man to blame for this and that's Pat Williams. He started it all in Orlando about 18 years ago.
