The reason I am posting this poll because it has become obvious that the RX has become a breeding ground for touts. I want to see how the masses feel.

IMO, no, not for just straight up picks and analysis of those picks.

But in the case of Dsethi and others like him, who may make himself available to answer questions about all kinds of other games kind of like a consultant, I could understand it....because you are paying for more than just picks

Why would anyone ever pay for a service? If you are in the game to make money, do your own research and there are plenty of sites, not this one, that post the top service's plays. Pretty easy to find and follow a hot one or fade a bad one-Lang. If you are in the game for entertainment, play small amounts and don't chase.

The only possible way I could see it being advantageous is if the handicapper has been independently tracked (NOTE: not by himself) for 5 years or so, with hundreds of picks each year and consistent winning percentages, using widely available lines.

Good luck finding a guy like that who touts though. More than likely, he's keeping his stuff to himself and raking in the dough. No need to tout.

The Poll should have been called "Is it Gay to pay for picks" or "Is it a scam to sell picks".

I honestly have no problem with you Dsethi, but I just cant see how it is not a scam since you cant guarantee anything, that and this is the only exciting topic going on right now.

Dsethi should be glad that I am slowly returning to the sharp tongued poster I once was. The pre-tout Dsethi would be proud

do explain as I respect your opinion and enjoy your posts. I think I know what you are saying though

You made your living for many years on the back of EV.

If you are confident that any services record is (a) accurate and (b) has a repeatable methodology, then if the EV of following the selections with the bank you have available and suitably Kelly bankroll management is greater than the cost of the service, it follows that it is logical to pay for and follow them.

I would estimate that 99.5% of the bets I make (as distinct from trading) originate with from one type of service or another (from free to not so free).
