I see it all the time in the "New Posts" search where a thread with no action in several hours is all of the sudden bumped. It will have a recent time in the last post part of the search but then when you get into it the post was from 6 hours ago...

Just curious.

mods can also bump a thread by making a post and deleting it

that was not true when I was a mod WVU.... I remember doing that once thinking I was bumping a RX bash thread for last years bash and realized I posted in the wrong thread..I deleted the post and the thread went back 3 pages down to where it was ..maybe things changed with the software

doc44 and WVU.

Incorrect, by making this post I just bumped the thread but if I were to delete it the thread would return to where it was when X-Files posted.

Everyone is right about polls. Vote in a poll, with or without a post and it will bump the poll.

Otherwise there is no way to bump a thread.

Why do threads that have not had a post in 6 days, months, years get
bumped? Craazy shit.<!-- / message -->

Show me one single normal thread (not a poll) that is bumped above threads whoes last post is marked anywhere inside of six hours younger than the newest post in the mystery bumbed thread and I will take it all back.

Its because when Coldweather wins he bumps his threads when he loses it fades away slowly never to be found again thus the appearance that he wins all the time with all the balloon men dancing around.
