The Big Fraud is alive and well........the more I think about it, the more this sport is really a joke and basically a 3-pt shot luck event.

Bobby Knight made a good point, eliminate the shot clock in the last 3 minutes of the game...............I would go one step further and vote on eliminating the thing all together..........along with the 3 pt shot.

Basketball was so much better without these two rule changes in my opinion.

I still haven't figured out why a halfcourt shot or longer doesn't count for five pts.

Across the street, some dumbass said that he filled out 65 different brackets! Who in the fuck does shit like that??

If you filled out more than 10-15 brackets, then you need a new hobby!

I sort of wish that I had filled out a bracket on the ESPN contest though. I filled out 3 brackets in all at 3 different sites. Each bracket was exactly the same except for 1 first round game I think.

The crazy thing about the guy with 65 brackets is that he probably made 65 totally different brackets. The best way to do that if you are such a loser would be to fill your one best bracket and submit it. Then just change 1 game in each of the other 64 brackets. Maybe start with the final 4 and work your way back.

If you fill out more than 1 bracket (different bracket) any success you have in one of them is invalid.

It's supposed to be who you think will win, not how many different guesses you can make. That's why I look at the winners on ESPN and know they know nothing about basketball but they just fill out 100 different brackets.

Not even sure that ESPN I am QUITE sure that yahoo would not pay out the 5 million for a perfect bracket.

If one year all favorites win, they will just have a few thousand dummy entries in the pool

I would be for dropping the 3-point shot.

Make it 23 feet 6 inches where there's a gap of 4 feet between line and top of key....19-9 easy to go .333 which translates to .500 from inside the arc. I believe teams lose more than win because of falling in love with 3 pointer--Clemson last night. Some games teams will go 18-28 inside the arc and 6-25 outside the line..throw in a 7-13 at line and you are on the losing end of a 74-61 game yet you dominated the pai:WTF:nt

I got them all right but 2... stupid ass Clemson and Kent St cost me a perfect round 1 bracket. What hurts the most is that I had Clemson going to the final four :ohno:

Well, considering I am the "dumbass" who filled out 65 (actually 62) brackets, I might as well defend myself.

First off, after losing my job recently and relegating myself to stay at home Dad for a spell, I figured ANY extra cash that might result is a good thing. And with so many free contests around, why not take a shot at them. I haven't had much cash to gamble with, so I still get that gambling excitement for no outlay.

I have won money or prizes almost every year in the last 10. Three years ago, I won a small Portland newspaper contest for a free trip to the next year's final four. I have also won $1000 several times, many small items (dartboard, signed football, free spa day for the wife, etc.).

By playing these free smaller bracket contests all over the place, I get to enjoy the games a lot more without laying out cash for larger bets.

I'm curious why that makes me a dumbass? Free shot at money? It takes maybe 5 minutes per contest. Is that such a big deal?

Yeah, I play mostly different brackets. I'm not trying to win all of them. I'm hoping to win SOMETHING. Then if one bracket falls apart, I still have some excitement with others. I think it would be dumb to play the same one everywhere, especially when you get anywhere from 1 million to 5 million for a perfect bracket.

For those that play powerball, do you buy multiple tickets with the same numbers? Seems kind of retarded to me.

As an aside, I was in first place (out of like 25,000 entries) at Sportsline in 1997 going into the FINAL, needing only Kentucky to win straight up. They were an 8 point favorite or so, if I remember right. First place was either $5K or $10K. They lost to Arizona. I fell all the way to like 27th or something, and won a nerf football instead. Sigh.

Anyway, say what you want, but I love NCAA time. Free brackets for free prizes. It usually costs me one day of filling them all out. So what?

Talk about VALUE. Geez.

You can enter ESPN against 3.65 million entries where first place wins $10,000. Or you can enter Bet Jamaica's pool for free, and win $2500 against only 3300 people.

By the way, ESPN allows 10 free entries per person, so yes, I entered 10 of them, even if the "perfect bracket" is a near impossibility. Should I have also entered the same 10 brackets over and over again? LOL. It's 10 shots at a free million. Why not?

Well i didnt know that ESPN would allow 10 brackets per person. I would have assumed that only 1 was possible. On a side note, why would they even allow more than 1 entry?

And with your ten entries, I would have only changed 1 game in each entry. And maybe have one entry have almost all underdogs in it

Oh lord please tell me you hedged w/ the AZ ML for a significant amount.

Hell you coulda put 2K on Zona +8 and had a guaranteed 2K win, and a great shot a winning them both.

If you did not hedge whatsoever, then yes, you are a dumbass.

Great thread. Judging by the majority of the comments on here, now I know why tigers eat their young.

I did not hedge.

The offshore place I was using (RKR Sports) had just scammed a ton of people and left everyone AesGold style. There wasn't a lot of information out there back then and I didn't trust that I would get paid betting offshore. I also did not have a local at the time this was going on.

I honestly considered paying the $300 to fly to Vegas and put down a hedge, but I would have likely lost way more than that as I would have played anything I won anyway.

Besides, I had an 8 point favorite to win SU that I didn't think needed a hedge. Also, this was with Sportsline, and before they were bought out by CBS. I didn't know I would get paid there either, as at the time, they were mostly a tout business, selling pick packages from Brent Crow, Trushel, and the like (if I remember that right).

Sure, if this happened now, it would be a different story and obvious hedge.

SIDE NOTE: It is amazing to look back and think we lived through the infancy of the web, offshore gambling, and the like, isn't it? Wild wild west at the time.

Anyway, I can handle being called a dumbass for that. I understand from my point of view why I did not, but I can surely see why someone would try to get something down. It was a different time back then.
