Terrible tragedy in Iowa City, IA today.

What a terrible thing that has happened. Pure speculation on my part but sounds like the driver Steve shot his children and wife and then committed suicide in his car. I live in Cedar Falls, Iowa so this is close to home for me. What the hell is happening to people in this country. So many sicks fucks.

I can never understand why they kill the kids. Just because you have a miserable f*cked up life doesn't give you the right to end your childrens lives. I've seen cases where the father has killed the kids but left the mom alive to make her suffer but still it is just senseless.

Just kill yourself if you hate life.

What a horrible and sad story!!...There are crazy people ALL over this country, including the state of IOWA (where some people believe its the best place to live)!

There's a common thread to school shootings and people who kill their families. It's mental illness. Some people, for whatever reason, are mentally or emotionally unstable. Maybe due to events that have happened to them or perhaps their brain chemistry has gone all wrong.

Almost the same type of incident just happened a couple weeks ago here in Oklahoma. Except the man shot and killed his two children and then himself just to get back at his wife who just divorced him. This guy was military and it happened at a housing unit on an Air Force Base. I'll never understand why they get their children involved..There should be a nice warm place in hell waiting for people like this.

They now are saying the children and wives may not have been shot to death but by some other method of murder. Absolutely terrible.

Too much pressure for the yuppies these days to "keep up with the Joneses".

No way this guy does this if his little extortion scheme hadn't been busted.

The sad thing is that he probably would have gotten away with it with a slap on the wrist due to the soft penalties that this country has for white collar crime.

You would be surprised at how many people look at situations like this from the viewpoint that the person is sane. That's why they are so surprised. If they took mental illness into consideration they wouldn't be surprised.

We have a tendency to think people are somewhat like us and then try to figure out how anyone could do something like this. When I tried to explain the Columbine shootings as someone who is mentally ill I had a dozen people try to argue with me.

Mental illness explains some but not all killings such as this. Some people kill because they have no empathy for others and are just mean sob's.

I think you and I are talking about two different things. Yes, there are mean people who murder who are not mentally ill. But it takes a mental instability to murder your own kids in cold blood or to go on a shooting rampage in a school and kill people you don't even know. I'm talking about these special cases.
