This game reminds me of the UW vs. Lou game a couple years ago. I was soo happy that Lou got screwed in that tourney and was seeded 4th and UW 1st. Then they had to play in the 3rd round and Lou took care of biz like we knew they would.

I think that Louisville is better then Tennessee. But, I am also somewhat biased. This Louisville team is a REAL TEAM. Ballanced and Confident. I am a hardcore fan, so I dont pretend to have no sway here.

This is kinda why I wanted to get a poll on this game. I wanted to get a feel. I got a bet going, where if Tenn wins I might have to do something I dont want to. Not sure what we are betting yet, but it will be good. I am a hardcore LOU fan and he is for Tenn.

Well no spread, just pick the winner.

any insight is much appreciated. I'll try and add some later.

Any thoughts on the lofton injury. Is anyone not betting or changing their bets cause of it? Anyone think it will be a total non-factor?

Not biased Over here ! But I think Tenn was a Little Shaky on Sunday and could have, and Should have Lost that game.
Last time something like that happened was when Duke Almost Lost to Belmont. We All know what happened in the Next round !!

Plus I Believe Also that Louisville is the Real Deal..

They will be Too Much, for Tenn to Handle .:cripwalk:

losing early in the big east tourney actually gave louis time to rest unlike gtown and pitt who are now gone, fresh and very deep team can withstand all of tenn pressure and right now is the better team and Tenn wont get all of those easy scores vs these guys

tennessee is the better team.
but a pitino-coached group is always going to get a lot of 'line respect'

louisville is good.
tennessee is better.

vols by 5-6 is how ive got it

Prodigy, we usually agree on a lot. Tennessee however, is not a good team. Their D blows. The key to this game will be louisville taking care of the ball. If they do, they win by 10.

This is the big thing I am worried about. What are people's thoughts on this? Matchup wise and everything else.

I have only seen Tenn play about 4-5 times this year not including postseason. They have been great and have tremendous energy. I wonder who has lou played who is like them?

It will be a good game I think. Just interesting stuff in it. 2 weeks ago I would have said Tenn would be favored, now it shocks me in no way that Lou is favored. And actually I think if Lofton is really hurt it should be more. I am worried on games like this where one team is playing far better games, the other team has a sizable injury, and then you have a spread under the number 3. interesting is all, makes you wonder if we are only getting part of the story as usual. I gotta give some more thought to this tonight.

Tennessee is good, they are just completely undisciplined and take some terrible shots. When they play and shoot well, they are very tough to beat. But if they miss some shots they get out of sync very easily. Lofton being hurt doesn't worry me too much, I would never count on him being productive anyway

tennessee is better defensively than north carolina.
a lot of people overlook that when they prop up the heels and put down the vols.

if tennessee loses, it will be because, as mentioned, they sometimes play a little 'too' fast and shot selection is questionable.

but if they play within themselves, im not sure theres a better team in the country. if nothing else, they can play with anybody.

From my Amateur Eyes the advantage Louisville appears to have in all their games is Depth. If somethings not working the Coach can instantly change it and with that depth somebody always seems to step forward. While people are talking of them as a 2nd tier Team the books have been on top of them most of the last 3 months and are now within 5 Pts of the Top. :drink:

Comparing the TN/Butler game to Duke/Belmont is pretty far out there. Butler was ranked #10 in the nation (final coaches poll) and Belmont was a 15 seed.

Big gamble by Bruce Pearl trying to prepare a PG to play in the Final Four by giving him on the job training in early NCAA games but the TN coaches felt they couldnt go all the way with Ramar and Howell at PG.

JP Prince is the key to this game for both teams and I think the tempo Thursday will be exactly the speed he needs to do well.

Obviously youve never seen Prince shoot the ball. Hes far from a "shooting" guard. But Pearl thinks hes a PG and he makes the lineups so thats what he is now.

Wise move to make in late March ? Im not sure. Pearl will either look brilliant or foolish.

Anyhow, the Vols are 4-1 this season against the other 15 teams left in the sweet sixteen, that should tell you something.

Big Card fan here. Should be a great game. 2 teams very closely matched, imo. Both teams have quality depth. The style and tempo of this game should give UL an opportunity to create turnovers, leading to easy buckets. They also recover very fast defensively, and will make UT be patient against the 2-3. I'm sure they will mix in some man, but will test UT with the zone. UT definately has some zone busters, however. The battle on the glass will be key. I look for Earl Clark to have a good night on both ends, but he will need some help offensively. UL's guards will have to be productive in the half court creating their own shots(other than Williams), because they have struggled at times when the 3 isn't falling. Padgett has to stay out of foul trouble. He really is the key to their half court O.

Tennessee is a very, very good team, but I look for the Cards to pull this one out by 6-7 points. They probably won't shoot quite as well as they have in the first 2 games, but their defense has been stellar all year, and will be the difference tonight.

TN plays great defense. Lots of pressure, steals and blocked shots. Because they press for 40 minutes and push the ball on offense, the opposition gets more shots, thus more points. TN will force enough turnovers to win by 8-12 if they hit 1/3 of their 3's. If they hit 1/2 of them, they will win by 15+.

They do not play great defense. They depend entirely on steals. They are not a top 25 defense in the nation. Steal dependent teams do not fare well in the tournament. They might do well against Louisville, because Louisville doesn't protect the ball especially well. That said, Louisville's defense is a TON better than UT's.
