Seen some good candidates in my short lifetime, early 90's Oilers and Bills, this decade's Mavericks, etc. But the team that stands out most to me is those mid 90's Cleveland Indians teams that never won a title. You look back at that roster and you see this:

C Sandy Alomar/Tony Pena
1B Julio Franco
2B Carlos Baerga
SS Omar Vizquel
3B Jim Thome
LF Albert Belle
CF Kenny Lofton
RF Manny Ramirez
DH Eddie Murray

Other players on and off those teams included Jeff Kent, Brian Giles, Jeromy Burnitz, David Justice, Dave Winfield, Matt Williams, Tony Fernandez, Marquis Grissom, etc.

Even had Nagy, Hersheiser, Colon, Jaret Wright, and Jose Mesa closing games.

Don't think I have seen a better all around collection of talent fail to win it all in my lifetime.

That team was a machine and fucked up the NFC championship game to a joke of an Atlanta team. That was going to be one of the great SB's of all time vs Denver

Oilers of '78 and '79. Stopped by the great Steeler teams both years in AFC Championship games.

Easy for me:

2001 Seattle Mariners

Tied for most wins ever in the regular season with 116. Ichiro wins the MVP, ROY, All Star, Gold Glove and led the league by hitting 350 and stolen bases with 56. This is easily the best rookie year I've ever witnessed in MLB. As a matter of fact the guy had 242 hits and that was more hits than any player since 1930.

And, not to mention, Brett Boone finished 3rd in the MVP balloting that year.

I watched them from start to finish and it was the most dominating baseball team I've ever watched until they played the NY Yankees.

And what's funny is there was no Griffey, A-Rod and Buhner barely played. Here was their lineup and keep in mind Scott Podsednik was on the bench.

C Dan Wilson
1B John Olerud
2B Bret Boone
3B David Bell
SS Carlos Guillen
LF Al Martin
CF Mike Cameron
RF Ichiro
DH Edgar Martinez

Starting Five:
Freddy Garcia
Aaron Sele
Paul Abbott
John Halama
Jamie Moyer

Closer:
Kaz Sasaki

Not very impressive lineup or starting 5 at all.

st.louis rams 2000-ish when they lost to a grossly inferior new england team. not sure if we will see an offense as good as that st.louis one any time soon.

on a college note, im still amazed that that lafrentz-paul pierce kansas team couldnt win a title. that team was ridiculously good. the roy factor? not sure. collison-heinrich-gooden also gagged pretty damn bad against syracuse.

1995-1996 team had Lafrentz, Pierce, Jacque Vaughn and Scot Pollard. Good call.

Funny thing about the 1995 Indians team is that if they did win, we would be saying the Braves were the most disappointing team in history for never winning a championship.

and jacque vaughn might have been second only to bobby hurley in terms of being the quintessential college point guard during the 90s.

Arizona with Bibby as a freshman and Miles Simon came out of nowhere to win the championship the year Kansas was the heavy favorite. Year before it was Syracuse making an improbable run the championship game, year after pretty sure it was an eight or nine seed
