Pitchers: Penny/Zito

Penny usually doesn't completely dominate teams and although the Giants have a weak lineup, they should put up a couple of runs which may be enough to win. Zito has had alot of success in Dodger Stadium and even though the boys in blue hit lefties well, they've had some issues hitting Zito. If Zito deals, this is anyone's game.

Colorado/St Louis Under 9 -115
Pitchers: Francis/Wainwright

Francis showed last season that he's a very good pitcher and the Cardinals don't have much of an offense. Wainwright killed in the 2nd half last season and although the Rockies have some bats, I think he'll be able to do well. He is on his way to being an ace. Pitchers' park only helps this under come in.

Houston Astros +145
Pitchers: Oswalt/Peavy

Both pitchers are absolutely filthy and have great histories against the other. Neither team can hit and this game will be close and low scoring. At +145 in a game that could be 0-0 when the starters leave, how can you not like it?

Pitchers: Halladay/Wang

Halladay just knows how to pitch well against the Yankees. He's been doing it for years whether it be in Toronto or in NY. The bigtime stage just doesn't faze the guy. Wang is a good pitcher as well but doesn't have as nice of a history against the Jays as Halladay does against the Yankees. I have the Blue Jays with the opening day upset.

Yea the Giants' offense scares me but I think that will be a competitive game. Also, I recall hearing earlier today that Pierre is starting off on the bench. I've been waiting for two years now for Ethier to get regular playing time and think Torre made the right now. Pierre does some things well but Ethier is the future IMO.

Also, for what it's worth, I don't put alot of emphasis in spring training pitching. I check into it, but I think results from last year are more appropriate unless an injury or random occurrence was involved.

Don't know if it's stats so much as it's what the stats mean - looking for guys that are having control issues or making tweaks, etc. Penny's had the best spring training of his career from many accounts, he personally hasn't put any stock into it from what he's said but it's apparent he's got his pitches working for him early.
