Further honing the investing and posting style we've been developing since beginning of NHL this past October, we'll be breaking our MLB investments into "Blocks" of approximately 100 selections.

Also, rather than using a grading system of "Units", "Dimes" "Pesos" or other denominations, we're going to simply create a mythical Bank which we will either add to or subtract from following each day's results.

The Mythical Bank is small in size to be in harmony with the majority of sports investors who though they may not say it out loud, are often smaller dollar players.

If your own "unit" is larger than those expressed within this thread, all you need to do is multiply for easy comparisons in the event you elect to play along with any of our posted investments.

Selections posted within this thread have a variety of components behind them which include, but are not limited to in-house capping, good advice from trusted friends, shameless coattailing of other forum friends (we try our best to note such tails) and the occasional fade of less respected sources (we make no note of such slumpers and of course wish them a speedy recovery)

Best of luck to us all for a profitable and successful MLB season in the weeks and months ahead.

Dodgers = BUM, whats the connection?

Zup, T2H

If you're in New Jersey, surely you can track down someone old enough to recall when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. They can likely explain better than I can.

In the first half of the 20th century, NYC had three teams. The Yankees and Giants were perennial contenders while the lowly Dodgers too often came up short (at least until the 1940s)

As third tier, they were the Bums from Brooklyn.

If you have lifetime history in the region, you should get a real entertaining read if you pick up BUMS - An Oral History of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Probably on Amazon used for just a few bucks.

In fact, your note has inspired me to do exactly that....track down a copy on Amazon and order it. I first read it upon publication in probably the mid 1980s, but I think it was a library check out.

I believe the Brooklyn Dodgers were affectionately referred by their loyal fans as 'Dem Bums. Later to be known as 'Dose Fuckin' Bums, following their late 50's move to Los Angeles by Walter O'Malley.

Nice work. Keep it up. Hoping to make it down to Tampa for a week in May. Trying to plan it around when the Rays are home. I want to see as many games as I can.

Probably get to see the Rangers and WhiteSox over 4 games...

Looking to see Garza in his first start.

B'man--Nice job. Let's see if the Yanks play one tonight. Once again, will be there, but unfortunately will be at work during the day.

Hat tip to DOUGLAS for directing my attention to the Florida total.

Second Hat tip to all the jag-off Yankee fans who will be swallowing loads of American League jism this year as Bombers fail to make post season for first time since 1994.
