Phillies killed me yesterday, was my big bet. Rays looked good in their 1st game. Never won on opening day on the road till Monday.

Angels -130
$65.00 to win $50.00

Probably have a play on the Marlins tomorrow, small.

DRAYS, I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy reading your blow. I went to the first ever Rays game and have been to several other ones. I am a lifelong Marlins fan, but I do root for the Rays in the AL.

Thanks Bud. All I ever have gotten as a Rays fans is shit; shit from other people. Some of it is deserved since they have been terrible for a decade, but it will mean so much more to me when they actually put it all together and compete for a pennant at some point. Lot of bandwagon fans in Tampa..I remember when the Bucs had the magical season in 97 where they went 10-6..."everyone" was supposedly a bucs fan all along..right.

Was in middle school in St. Pete when we were told we were getting the DRays.

I too was at the inaugaral DRays game in 1998, having just moved to Pinellas County about six weeks earlier after 37 years in DFW area of Texas where as a 12 year old my parents took me to first game ever for the Little Rangers in Arlington.

It's truly a blast growing with a major sports team from Day 1, especially when they finally do (as DRays are now) put together the right steps for real success.

We had to wait until 1996 for Texas' first post season appearance. Here's to DRays getting it done a bit faster.

DR82, just made my fourth $5 invesment on TBay Wins AL (60x1)

Eff the critics. No matter where it falls, the minute TBay has their first .500+ season, the line of bandwagon folks claiming to be part of the original fan surge will be out of sight.

Your right about that. Love to fly home for the Seattle opener next week.

Also very interested to see how the Rays do against a 4 game series vs the Yanks in the Bronx this weekend (game 4 on ESPN 2 Monday night).

Well DRays, I think your time is coming soon. I didn't like trading away Delmon Young, but you guys still have tons of young talent. There is also young top line pitching prospects on the way. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rays close to .500 this year and then improve into contenders soon.

Trading away D Young was essential for healthy team chemistry.

He may well have a long and successful career, but he deliberately and with premeditation poisioned his relationship with the DRays long before he ever got his first major league swing.

The DRays over past 30 months have made a number of trades and almost all have - with sufficient hindsight - proven to be a plus for their team.

I can't tell you in one post about the Hue & Cry from ArmChairFan when TB traded away:

Aubrey Huff....weep, moan.....and now we realize he was a supplementing freak with a lousy attitude.

Mark Hendrickson....weep, moan....And two years later he's STILL got an ERA in the fives.

Julio Lugo....weep, moan....And two years later he's still about the 23rd best SS in the majors.

Trading Delmon was a great move. They got a future very good #2 starter in Garza, and lots of infield help. They sold at the highest possible point (a cost-controlled player) in my opinion, since Young's plate skills were not improving.

2-1+ $85.00

Totally wrong on the Cards total, but will take 2-1 everyday. Great to see the Marlins win. I will never touch a -200 line in baseball.

I know he is 21 but Garza has much much upside. I think he has the chance to be a #1 starter.

That gives the Rays 3 top starters already, with 2 more great ones on the way.

I will always trade offense for pitching, especially young pitching.

:103631605 Barman is right above in his post. When Sternberg took over, he pretty much 86'd the cancer in the clubhouse. Not all at once, but he has now. Everyone on that team has a great attitude and should build chemistry and help a young team.

Garza is the key to this year, and not just by wins or losses. I posted back in Feb. that the Rays are taking a gamble, good gamble, but a gamble regardless. If Garza has a bad year, this puts them right around say 69 wins. Friedman is hoping Garza can help push to a close .500 record to attract free agents and fans, booming the business.

Watching him for the first time on mlb.tv tomorrow.

And the #1 overall pick who already has proven he can hit 290 at the pro level at age 20 doesnt have much much upside. Im sorry man this comment is absurd as it comes. I guarantee he improves both his HR and steal numbers this year. AVG and OBP will improve as he becomes a more disciplined player. Alex Rios in 2-4 years. Maybe David Wright and above after that. There is no no no way he has reached his ceiling yet.
