BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Indiana has confirmed that guards Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis have been dismissed from the men’s basketball team.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Media relations director J.D. Campbell said Tuesday that the players missed an appointment, then didn’t show up to run laps as punishment.
Each was suspended during the season for violating team rules. Bassett missed three games and Ellis missed the regular-season finale against Penn State.
Bassett was a third-team All-Big Ten selection after scoring 11.4 points per game. Ellis averaged 6.8 points per game.
The dismissals could mean Indiana would have no returning starters next season if freshman guard Eric Gordon turns pro. The team also will have a new coach to replace Kelvin Sampson, who resigned amid NCAA accusations of recruiting violations.

With no returning starters, they'd better hire a coach that can pull in those junior-college transfers and one-year wonders....wait, that's what got them in trouble this year. Oh myyyyyyyyyyy!!!

If Eric Gordon turns pro, my question why is he waiting to so long to announce it? IU is in shambles. Should not have hired Sampson in the 1st place.

100% Gordon will turn pro.

Sampson trashed the program in 2 years. Nice.

Is Dakich making these decisions? Seems like there might be a conflict of interests if he is.

Athletic Director needs to be flushed as well. He knew what he was getting into when he hired Sampson. He is accountable as well.

yeah its a weird spot, its possible once the new coach is in place that he will talk to Armon and Jemarcus and they may be back.

That makes sense. I just hope IU hires Sean Miller before the Kansas job opens up.

IU is talking to Miller today, if he doesnt take it(which its probably like 20% that he does take the job), IU will move on to Anthony Grant and Brad Brownell, and I don't know in which order. It's 100% that Brownell, an Indiana native takes the job, as he is making 225k this year and basically has to do it for financial reasons alone, I'm not sure about Grant, but I think Donovon called IU and recommended Grant. Grant and Brownell would both be solid hires with tons of upsides, both are as good as a Bennett or Miller imo. So the search should end there unless Crean is showing interest.

im not sure if miller is ready to run a big time program.
his pedigree would say yes.
but the inmates were running the asylum at xavier. as good as the muskateers were, they didnt always buy into his philosophy. might be too soon to step up to the big leagues. brownell is a fantastic coach that is totally under the national radar. it wouldnt make big waves, but it would be a great hire.

IU's had 15 different people worked in various positions ranging from school president to both money revenue sports' head coach along with women's hoops coaches and AD's as well since 2000! Thank you to effing current NCAA president-TOOL whom put in "zero tolerance BS" as the university president at the time that set up Knight if wasn't for that smartass kid pissed him off at the Hall. Blame the Sampson hire on previous president named Herbert,he was only the president for 2-3 years before he got of the business for monetary reasons(smart move) that Greenspan had no choice but go with this hire. Greenspan got fired at Army for the football mess with Bobby Ross' tenure as he should be canned after new hoops' coach being name.
